Yankee Candle sells some of the most fragrant, popular candles around. However, after browsing E-bay, you may have some questions that you won't find answers to on Yankee Candle's website. That is the purpose of this guide. To address some of these questions.
WHAT DO THOSE ABBREVIATIONS STAND FOR?
Browse the Yankee Candles on E-bay and you may see some of the following abbreviations:
HTF- Hard To Find NLA- No Longer Available RET- Retired LED- Limited Edition SED- Special Edition
WHY CAN'T I FIND THAT CANDLE IN THE YANKEE CANDLE STORE?
Yankee Candle has an unchanging core variety of their best selling scents. To supplement this, they come out with new, seasonal scents, special and limited editions, test scents and holiday specials. IF you fall in love with one of these scents, the bad news is that you may not be able to buy it directly from Yankee Candle after its initial run. This creates a secondary market for these candles on E-bay.
WHAT IS A "SECOND"
Yankee Candle also sells what are known as "seconds." These candles generally have a yellow sticker on the bottom of the jar and are sold at Yankee Outlets. A candle can be labled a second for many reasons, from a slight cosmetic defect to no real reason at all. For example: * The jar was overfilled * The wick was not perfectly centered * There was an overproduction of the scent * The color is slightly off * The wrong label was placed on the jar * The jar itself is not perfect * The lid is not sealing completely * The candle is slightly loose in the jar
WHY DO SOME YANKEE CANDLE JARS LOOK DIFFERENT?
You'll notice that not all Yankee Candle jars have a uniform look. Some have stripes, some don't. Some have lables and others don't. Why is this? Well, the good news is, even if the jar looks a little different, the scent inside should still smell the same. Yankee Candle, in addition to its regular stores, has clearance outlets. If an order of jars comes and the lable or markings on the jar looks different than it is suppossed to, Yankee will purchase them for a discount to sell in its outlet stores. Some fragrances will go into these jars so that someone cannot purchase a jar at an outlet for a discount and then return it to Yankee for full price.
IS IT JUST ME OR DO SOME SCENTS SMELL THE SAME?
You may find that the blue jar of Festival of Lights and the pink jar of Home Sweet Home smell amazingly alike. Are you going crazy? No. Yankee Candle does sell indentical scents under different names. Vintage Rose and Roses of Cliff Walk are the same. Home Sweet Home is sold under a few different guises.
