Ready to change your Head Light bulbs,or upgrade to nice XENON HID bulbs in your 2001-2003 Chrysler PT Cruiser? Then read on as it's not as easy as you think. HID bulbs are a beautiful, bright white making it much easier to see at night and in the rain. If you have a challenge seeing clearly at night as I do (especially in the rain), upgrade your lightbulbs to HID- you will love them. HID is an acronym for "High Intensity Discharge".

There is a black access door in front of each front wheel on the wheel well. You can either remove the front tires (a pain) and put the car on stands for safety, but I just turned the steering wheel to get to it, without removing the wheel. On the driver's side, turn the wheel to the left all the way and for the passenger side, turn your wheel to the right.

After you remove the access panel, use a flashlight so you can see inside. You then turn the bulb holder to remove it and unhook the wiring plug. Make sure to test your lights first to make sure you're replacing the bulbs you want- low beam or high beam. I suggest if you are doing one bulb, you may as well change all of them as it's a lot of work to get at them in the first place. The new bulbs come with the holder attached. DO NOT touch the glass on the lamp, as the oil on your fingers can etch the glass and make the bulbs fail prematurely. If you do touch the glass, wipe the bulb with rubbing alcohol and a clean lint free cloth. I found that the access panel is narrow, so reaching and fitting your hand through that area is a problem. Find someone with a long skinny arm & hand!

Your new HID Xenon bulbs usually come with Electrical Conducting Grease, make sure YOU USE IT but apply sparingly. This grease helps make a better contact between the two connectors. When you are finished replacing your bulbs, DON'T replace the access panels yet, test your lights first to make sure they work. This will save you, trust me I didn't test my lights first and had to do all the steps over again. Learn from my challenges.
