Wyandotte Toy Cars and Trucks

 Wyandotte, or All Metal Products, was a pressed metal toy factory that made cars, trucks, pop guns and other metal toys from 1920 to 1957.  Using less expensive scrap metal from the auto industry, they made high quality mass produced metal toys. 

All Metal Products began producing Wyandotte trucks and cars, getting the name because they were made in Wyandotte Michigan.  They moved in the 1950s to Ohio getting them closer to their source of scrap metal, and also cheaper labor.  Atempts to salvage the company in 1957 failed.  Ultimately that strategy did not work out, they went bankrupt, and were purchased by one of their competitors, Louis Marx and Company.

In the 1920s they began making a wider range of toys, expanding the consumer base.  Their slogan became "Wyandotte Toys are Good and Safe"  During WWII, however, they could not get steel and began making wooden toys and toys of die-cut cardboard, for build your own playsets.  In 1948 they added die-cast and hard mold plastic toys in an effort to keep up with the 5 and Dime store bargain basement competition.  High labor costs and steel shortages in the 1950s, combined with their move to Ohio and new management ended the run of Wyandotte toys.

Today collectors continue to cherish and spend top dollar for the metal toys and trucks made by Wyandotte.  eBay has become a place to buy, sell and trade Wyandotte for many collectors.  The world wide marketplace has made hard to find and pristine examples available to any collector.
