Hello Everyone,
This is a brief step by step guide for using Woodland Scenics Plaster Cloth to make a mountain. This was my first project using Plaster Cloth, so I make no claims whatsoever to be an expert. This fact should testify though to just how easy this product is to use.
The first step of course was to have a place to build the mountain. For our stores window display layout we needed to be able to access the layout in the middle so we could reach the far parts of the layout. So the framing for the back of the access is what we decided to use to support our mountain.
The next step was to wad up some heavy paper and tape it in place for the basic shape of the mountain.
Now we get to the plaster cloth. It is recommended that you cut the roll into 10 inch sections which makes it much easier to work with. It is best to do this first while your hands are dry.
You will need a pan or tray filled with water to proceed. Take a section of the plaster cloth, holding each end, dip it in the water, then apply it to your mountain. Overlap each piece and work the seams together while the material is still wet. The material is extremely easy to work together at this point and it is much easier to work the gaps out now, than to fill them in later.
Repeat the application of sections until your mountain is complete.
I will have another guide shortly for applying the scenery to the plaster cloth. I hope this was helpful and encourages you to start your project soon!
