If I have a black St John Knits Santana Knit jacket will it match a black pair of pants?
Usually we would say yes - If proper care is taken when cleaning and caring for a St John Knits item the blacks should match perfectly. In 99% of the cases we used to say it would. Times are changing though.
Marie Gray sent out a letter to St John Knits customers stating that they are changing their black Santana Knits. She sent a five paragraph letter stating why they are changing their "black". Because of dye processing the black we are accustomed to actually has a blue hue to it. They have developed a new process that uses less water and energy and is a truer black than before. The new color is called Caviar (I really like the name). I also like the environementally better product they are producing.
Anyway, you cannot assume any longer that the black pieces you own will match if they are black. Supposedly if you have a black multi piece it will look fine with the new Caviar, but if you have a solid it will not.
We will stay on top of the progress in this line and keep our buyers updated. While we have not seen the Caviar color come through our store yet, when we do we will know the difference and will disclose this in our listings.
