So you’ve got a brand new Wii , huh? Ready to get some casual gaming going with your friends? Ready to make your parents or grandparents a gamer? Surely you’ll be testing out your new hardware with Wii Sports. But before you get going, you’ve got to know that there are little intricacies, small details to pick up on, to ensure that you will do your best!

Tennis
Tennis is the most straightforward out of the games. Swing the remote like you’d swing the racket! You don’t have to worry about movement, however. Just swing the remote when the ball gets to your player! Here’s one thing that, while it’s obvious, a lot of players don’t pick up on. MOST people only swing when the ball hits the back player. But if you’re doing a little 2 on 2, you can swing the remote when it gets near the player CLOSEST to the net as well, giving a quick return and possibly getting the best of your opponent!

Also, if you want to change the tennis court to the blue tennis court from the training session, simply hold the 2 button at the warning screen, after selecting characters!

Golf
Golf is a touchy game, and it’s one of the games where you can’t QUITE emulate real life while playing. The sensitive controls will always result in you going overboard and often ruining your shot. Instead, make light gestures, and always take the overall map and wind conditions into consideration. Wind, especially, as that can really dictate your shot! And don’t be afraid to change clubs with the d-pad, either.

If you want to go for the true golf experience, and play it without any maps or meters or indicators, simply hold the 2 button when you are selecting your course!

Baseball
Baseball, like tennis, gets most of the work done for you. All you need to concern yourself with is pitching and hitting. There’s not much you can do when you’re up to bat. It’s all about hand-eye coordination. Just hit the ball when you think you can, as there’s really only one swing you can perform. For hitting, toss it up a lot, keep your opponent on your toes. By holding either A, B, or A and B together while pitching, you will throw your ball differently. Keep up the variety and you’re bound to strike your opponent out!

One pitch that can almost guarantee a win is the splitter, which is A and B together. There is a very little chance that your opponent will ever hit it. However, if your opponent doesn’t swing, it will count as a ball. If you’re willing to take that risk, then the splitter could be your best friend!

Bowling
Bowling is a popular one. While the controls take some getting used to, always think of it like real bowling. Lift the ball up, press B, and then move your arm back and swing, letting go of the B button when you reach the line of the lane. Here’s some advice to get over some minor control-related issues. Move your character SLIGHTLY to the right, using the d-pad. When most people let the ball go, it will curve slightly to the left. So if you move to the right before you go, then it will still hit the center, increasing your chances for a strike!

If you want to change up your experience a little bit, you can choose different ball colors! As the screen fades to black in the bowling game, hold the directional pad up for a blue ball, right for a gold ball, down for a green ball, and left for a red ball.

Boxing
Ah, the most physically draining of the competitions. While the controls may be iffy in boxing, the fun and excitement is always there. To ensure victory over your opponent, you don’t NEED to go crazy. Sure, you can throw lefts and rights with the strength of a real boxer, but by the end of round one you’ll be out of breath and dripping with sweat. If you want to maintain your stamina, and keep it going all three rounds, make light, controlled jabs. You CAN aim your punches, but it takes a little time. Swinging either fist outwards and then back in will almost always nail your opponent hard in the side. And moving your fist up a little before a punch guarantees a face shot. Always block when someone gets going, and just wait for an opening. You’ll be the champion in no time.
