Commonly, CD-R and CD-RW media may not be recognized by a CD or DVD drive because of the following reasons:
The format used to burn the information onto the media is a non-standard format.
The quality of the disc itself is poor, due to factors such as dye type and burn length.
If the drive successfully reads the Dell provided operating system CD or the Dell driver CD, the drive is working properly.
