The Box Moulding Program

Why would someone by box moulding, moulding by the box, if you can buy it in length?  This guide is meant to help explain when it makes sense to purchase box moulding.  Not all people should buy box moulding, for some length moulding or chop moulding is the way to go.  This guide will helpfully make you realize if box moulding is right for you.

If you do any volume framing the way to buy mouldings is almost always by the box.  In some cases (when the frame sizes you are cutting actually sees no benefit to having longer sticks) the savings on freight may warrant buying length moulding in 54in sticks or smaller to save on freight costs (ship UPS standard).

Why should you buy box mouldings?

  • You save lots of money and you get a lot more usable linear footage.
  • Example you need 100 30in by 30in, inside measurement, frames of a 1in moulding.
    • If you buy moulding in 4 1/2 ft sticks and ship UPS you would need to buy 400 sticks times 4.5ft  equals1800 ft.  You can only get 1 30in stick per 4 1/2ft section.  Assume $1 per foot you spend $1800 plus shipping
    • If you buy box moulding in 9ft sticks you could get 3 30inch sections (basically you need 3 sticks 36in long to get 3 of the 30in inside measurement parts cut from each 9ft parent stick). So you would need 134 parent sticks or 1206 feet. And the box price is usually cheaper...say 40percent so you pay $0.60 a foot times 1200 equals $720 plus freight.
    • Even paying for freight, $100 to a commercial or $160 to a residence, you save money!  Box Moulding is the better value
  • You start off with 8ft-10ftsticks vs 4-5ft sticks so your waste is less-see above example.
  • Your cost per foot is normally as much as half off length pricing to begin with.
  • Shipping per foot is less than half your normal cost as well-freight vs UPS
  • Risk of Damage is less-factory packaging vs repackaged at a wholesaler.

Hands down this is the best value around.  If you know you will use it eventually, buy the box!

Save money on your materials and add to your bottom line profits.
