In this guide I will give you some background and insight of Tiger Woods. I will tell you who he is, what he does and why he is known throughout the golf world and Non-golfing world as perhaps the best athlete of all time!

Personal Information

Tiger Woods was born December 30, 1975 in Cypress California. He currently lives in Jupiter Island, Florida. He married ELin Nordegren in October 2004.   Tiger attended Stanford University for two years but did not graduate.  Tiger Woods has been playing golf since he was old enough to hold a golf club.  (three years old)

Golf Career

Tiger Woods is one of the most successful golfers of all time. He has been playing on the PGA tour for 10 years and he is currently ranked as number one in the world.  He is the highest paid professional athlete in the world and he has earned an estimated $87 million dollars in 2005. In 2006 at the age of 30, he won the British Open and PGA Championship making that his 11th and 12th major golf championship of his career.  He has more wins on the PGA TOUR than any other active golfer and he is the only active golfer in the top 10 of career major wins.

His first victory on the PGA tour came i 1996, the first year he became a professional.  He won twice in 1996 and was 1996's Sportsman of the Year (named by Sports illustrated) He was also the PGA rookie of the year.  His first major victory came at the 1997 Masters where he won by an amazing 12 strokes.  In June of 1997 he rose to the number one spot on the Official Golf Rankings for the first time in his career.   Since that time, he has won 54 official tournaments and he has won 12 Major Championships.

Tiger Woods also had a very successful amateur career. In 1984 he won the boys age 9-10 event at the Junior World Golf Championship even though he was only 8 years old.  He won the Junior World's six times. Tiger Woods won the USGA US Junior Amateur tournament three times (1991, 1992, 1993) and he won three consecutive USGA US Amateur titles  in 1994, 1995, 1996 and turned professional shortly after his third US Amateur win.

Golf Tools

Tiger Woods has an endorsement deal with NIKE Golf.  He plays the Nike SasQuatch Tour Driver, Nike T60 3 Wood and Nike Forged Irons.  His Wedges are NIKE 56 Degree Pro Combo SW and 60 Degree Flatback TW LW.  His putter is the Scotty Cameron by Titleist Studio Stainless Newport and the putter grip is by Ping. (the ping name is usually blacked out because of endorsement deals).  He plays with the Prototype Nike One Platinum Ball. (they have the name TIGER on them) He wears Nike SP 8 TW Tour Golf Shoes.

Charities

Tiger Woods is also well known for his charitable work. He has the Tiger Woods Foundation which was established in 1996 to help children.  He also opened the Tiger Woods learning center.   The Learning Center is a 35,000 square foot educational center in Anaheim California.    He also supports the Target World Challenge which is an off season golf tournament which raises money for the charity.

Tiger Woods is clearly a dominate force on the PGA Tour and around the World. With his 12 major wins and 54 tour titles in his first 10 years on the tour, he has no doubt earned the title as the greatest golfer of all time and is sure to break more records before his career is over.
