Once you have found the perfect white board, you will need to know how to take care of it. Our white board cleaning and mounting guide will hopefully answer all of the questions you have on taking care of your white board.

Mounting Your White Board

Different white boards call for different mounting procedures. Be sure to read and follow the mounting instructions very carefully to prevent any type of injury.

Your white board could come with any of the following types of mounting hardware:

• Keyhole hangers: Steel plates with keyhole-shaped holes that attach to screws in your wall. Keyhole hangers allow items to be hung flush or very close to flush to the wall. These will generally be found on smaller sized boards.
• Angle hangers: Used to create positive, secure angles for white board installation.
• Adhesive: Some manufactures recommend installing your white board directly to your wall with adhesive.
• Z-bar hangers: Used at the top of white boards for mounting.
• L-clips: These are L-Shaped clips which attach to the bottom and tops of boards.
• Rawl plugs: Used in stubborn surfaces such as brick or sheet rock. The plug is placed in your wall and the screw is screwed into the plug, allowing more grip than the wall substance would.
• Screws: Screws are needed to mount most white boards to your wall.

Initially Cleaning Your White Board

Many boards are shipped with a protective plastic covering to prevent scratches. Make sure to remove this plastic before attempting to write on the surface of your new white board. The next step will be to spray your board with a white board cleanser and wipe with a soft cloth. Finally, rinse your board with water and dry completely with a non-abrasive cloth.

Regular Cleaning Tips

When regularly using your white board, you should always erase your writing after every use. If writing is left on your board it can seep into the surface and create permanent stains.

• Clean your board with a white board cleanser at least 2 to 3 times a week.
• Do not use abrasive cleaners like acetone to clean your board as they can wear down the writing surface. These cleaners can also create a build-up on the board, which can make it difficult to write on.

Erasing Tips

• Let your writing completely dry before trying to erase it. If wet ink is erased it can smear causing stains on your white board.
• Make sure to use erasers that are specifically designed for white boards. Erasers that are made for chalkboards may cause harm to your white board.
• Always use dry erasers on your board, as wet erasers can smear ink and create stains.
• Do not use any abrasive erasers on your board, they can cause scratches. These scratches can then be filled with dry marker residue and will appear black.
• Cleaning your erasers periodically will help keep your white board fresh. Dirty erasers can spread marker residue on white boards creating stains.
• When cleaning your eraser, be sure it is completely dry before using it.

Getting Permanent Marker off White Boards

• You should always use dry erase markers on your white board, but if for some reason permanent maker has gotten on your board there are ways to get it off. If caught soon after the markings happen, simply write over them with a dry erase marker. Let dry and erase, if marks can still be seen, repeat previous steps.
• If the permanent marker has been on your board for awhile it may be a little harder to get off. Try using a very small amount of isopropyl alcohol on a soft cloth. Rinse the stain with water and then thoroughly dry with a soft cloth. You may need to repeat this procedure a few times to get rid of the stain. Although isopropyl alcohol works great on stains it should not be used to clean your whole white board. This alcohol can be very abrasive and it can wear down the white coat on your white board.
