In the shamanistic native cultures of the world there is a strong belief in the influence of animals. Animals may be totems or guiding forces in your life.  There is also a belief that if you see a certain creature; it is a sign that you need to tend to that aspect in your life. Of course, in order to do that, you must know what aspect is lacking or causing discordance. Here is a list of known animals and their meaning.  I have included some otherworldly animals, as often we are visited by our animal totem, not when walking down the street, but while dreaming and sleeping.
