There are three major types of kitchen compost pails:

There are several options for choosing a compost pail.  Each pail offers similar features and also those that make them unique.  Below is a review based on our in-home test of each RSVP International Compost Pail, and the feedback from 100's of customers over the last year.

Odor filters

The lids are all a tight fit, but there are holes in the top that allow air and moisture to exchange with the compost inside.  The lid is equipped with two black carbon filters that keep the compost odor at bay for about 6 months.  New filters cost about $6.25 in our eBay store.

Capacity/Size

Each pail is about 8” in diameter and 11” high with a 1-gallon capacity.

Using A Liner

If you buy the bags that go inside, a 1 gallon bag won’t fit!  (The top needs to go over the sides of the pail.)  Three gallon bags fit but they come up over the top of the pail.  See our BioBag FAQ for more information about biodegradable BioBag liners.
