Where Can I Find a St. Bernard Wood Whiskey Keg or Barrel with Leather Designer Dog Collar &  How to Raise A Saint Bernard.  This large breed is not a pet for everyone & sadly, many end up in rescue programs.  I encourage you to research this breed before you purchase and please consider finding your Gentle Giant at a rescue shelter and giving it a "Forever Home".

Feeding
You will find that a Saint's motto is, "Why Stand When You Can Sit, and Why Sit When You Can Lay Down."  Since they are basically placid dogs, they generally require less food per pound of body weight than smaller, more active breeds.

Shedding
They do shed, usually twice a year, in the fall and the spring.  But I have a Long Haired Saint and a Short Haired Mutt, and they both shed equally the same amount.

Drooling
A Saint Bernard WILL drool, but the amount of slobber bombs will depend on the weather, the shape of the jowls and the level of excitement.  I just keep several hand towels around the house.

Training
Because of their size, they MUST be trained when they are young but since they are eager to please, training is not as difficult as you would think.

Watch Dogs
Saint Bernards can make good watch dogs since their size and bark will scare away most intruders.  However, if the intruder gets past the size and the bark, then your Gentle Giant will probably invite them in for a cup of tea and guide them straight to the family jewels since they prefer to be a friend to all.

Kegs and Barrels
Once you have decided that Drool is Cool and that you can handle the challenges of being owned and operated by a Saint Bernard, you will probably want to buy the traditional trademark Wood Keg or Brandy Barrel.  And you will quickly learn that they are hard to find.

Bacteria in the Wood
You will have to decide if you want a barrel for display only or one that will hold liquids.  You may find an antique or vintage keg that still holds liquids, but please know that bacteria can get into the wood and I would not recommend that you use old kegs to hold liquids for human or pet consumption.

New Barrels and Custom Leather Collars - The Latest in Plus Size Fashion
The barrels I sell are brand new oak barrels and can contain liquids. Since water in a keg can cause bacteria, I only recommend that you use alcohol spirits which can kill the bacteria.  There are other cleansing procedures you can use, such as rinsing with a dilute chlorine solution and then letting the inside of the barrel dry completely.  The barrel should be worn snug but not too tight just under the dogs chin so that it does not bump against the breastbone as the dog walks.  My Designer Custom Leather Collars are made to your specificiations and  have three snaps on either side so you can adjust the collar for the perfect fit.  You can order the keg  with or without the Swiss Flag Emblem at no extra cost.  The spigot, cork and stand are also included.

My kegs and collars are a labor of love for this beautiful breed.
