I consider myself an advanced PC user, if for nothing else, then for the time required for me to wear a hardware component out. The mice are the No.1 on the list. I've been using more then 10 mice and 2 notebook touchpads in 2 years and I've really had trouble to find the one that will work great for a longer period of time. I'm doing a lot of graphics and web programming, so apart from the keyboard, the mouse really goes through a lot of beating. The first thing I grown to hate was the cord, I just couldn't find the best way to fix it, or to place it so that it wouldn't bother me while mouse moving around. Conclusion: go wireless.
The from the ball, optical, finnaly you get to the laser one. Next, the actual shape/size of the mouse, it's ergonomity. If you use a mouse a lot, never save money on it, instead spend a few $$$ more for a better mouse, because you'll save your arm from suffering, and it will be a better PC experience overall. Since I'm righthanded, I never cared for the ambiguous-symetrical mice, rather I've always picked the ones that were for the right hand. And, personally like a lot of buttons on a mouse (for handy scrolling, zooming, searching, and web browsing back-forward movement).
Once you consider all that, the number of mice that could fit the requred description is very limited. So, after searching on the net, I stumbled upon the "Most Advanced Mouse In The World" - Logitech claimed. So, I got myself a MX Revolution. After that, all other mice I've used were like bricks compared to this one. The mouse is quite large, but once you grab it, you can really feel that what you have there isn't any ordinary mouse. I use a cheap mousepad, and the mouse just glides on it like skates on ice. BT connectivity goes with no problems, the provided Logitech SetPoint Utility is more that enough to configure the mouse, and the thing that I like most on the mouse is the silent scroll wheel option, with no clicks (this is an option that you can choose in the Utility or just press the middle wheel to switch scroll modes).
It is a great mouse for use with variety of different applications, and from my experience, isn't such a energy spender like some other members reported. I use it 6-8 hours a day, and recharge it once every 3-4 weeks. I wouldn't recommend this mouse just as is, you have to try it before you actually buy it, because, just maybe, it won't fit your hand like a glove. My hand is satisfied with it, so I guess the mouse is a perfect shape/size. But, if you do get to like it, you'll probably view the other mice quite differently after that experience.
