So you want to know whats in my CD player right now - 10.15.2005?!

These are the 6 CDs currently in my CD players - a review of each and a link to the eBay review and buy pages:

Disc 1: Coldplay X&Y CD

I've always been a Coldplay fan and "A Rush of Blood to the Head" is one of my favorite albums... probably ranking in my top 25. After a three-year wait for "X&Y" there were high expectations for the British groups third album. And what was to be expected? Melow? Ballads? Bigger band?

And X&Y combines all of that - surely a maturation from the first two albums. The songs are more complex (the lyrics as well) than in the past and seem to call upon the band more heavily than in the past. But like all Coldplay albums, this CD grows on you and with each passing song, it sounds different and means something different that it did the play before.

The great part about this album is its growth - starting with the strong Square One which crescendos itself - the tracks build upon one another, ebbing and following. Each song is so uniquely different, but beside each other, X&Y is certainly not a collection of tracks but truly an album.

In my opinion, X&Y was worth the three-year wait. Enjoy.

Disc 2: Cake Pressure Chief CD

"Idiosyncratic alternative pop" immediately comes to mind when trying to describe Cake to the uninitiated. On the band's fifth album, PRESSURE CHIEF, John McCrea and company continue down the same creative path with their tried-and-true knapsack of sonic elements--McCrea's deadpan phrasing, sprinklings of trumpet, and off-kilter hooks that manage to work in spite of themselves.

Fueled by its frontman's progressive views on everyday life, this Sacramento quartet takes aim at a depleted ozone layer (the faux-punk-meets-Kraftwerk "Carbon Monoxide"), the intrusiveness of modern technology (a jittery, keyboard-laden "No Phone"), and society's prevailing "get-it-now" sentiments (the loping ""Waiting"). McCrea also tries his hand at legit singing, and he ends up sounding sincere, whether it's on the R.E.M.-like "She'll Hang the Baskets" (featuring guest guitarist Chuck Prophet) or a heartfelt walk through Bread's 1970s nugget "The Guitar Man," adding yet another quirky cover choice to the group's pantheon. Oddball yet endearing, PRESSURE CHIEF furthers Cake's successful pursuit of loose and non-conformist pop music.

Disc 3: Journey's Greatest Hits CD

Go ahead… admit it. Journey is one of the great 70s and 80s bands – symbolizing 80s rock, hair spray, wild vocals and outfits. Lead by Steve Perry, Journey wrote and performed some of the most classic songs of the 80s – in fact, people often hear some of the songs and, after singing the lyrics, are surprised to learn its Journey.

The power ballads make the CD and scream 80s rock: "Faithfully," "Open Arms," and "Send Her My Love”. Non ballads songs like: Anyway You Want It" and "Don't Stop Believin'” are equally fun.

Other notes: This CD has a DVD companion that I purchased off of eBay as well. It does the band and songs such great justice mostly because of the outfits and hair. But if you watch closely enough, you will even see that American Idol judge Randy Jackson was part of the band in several scenes (looking awful!) as the bassist. Also, Journey is currently touring – it’s a great show, but beware – Steve Perry is no longer part of the band, and its just not the same!

1. Only the Young
2. Don't Stop Believin’
3. Wheel in the Sky
4. Faithfully
5. I'll Be Alright Without You
6. Any Way You Want It
7. Ask the Lonely
8. Who's Crying Now
9. Separate Ways (Worlds Apart)
10. Lights
11. Lovin', Touchin', Squeezin'
12. Open Arms
13. Girl Can't Help It
14. Send Her My Love
15. Be Good to Yourself

Disc 4: Neil Young Greatest Hits CD

Neil Young's Greatest Hits is a splendid compilation of Neil Young's music which spans decades, genres and sounds. From Down by The River to Old Man (my favorite) and Harvest Moon - this greatest hits album does a nice job paying tribute to all of Neil's best songs and all of his styles... The music sounds superb as the tracks are restored and remastered. If you are only going to own one Neil Young album - this should be it. If you own several Neil Young albums - and you should... hes a true pioneer and songwriter - this is a must add!

1. Down By The River
2. Cowgirl In The Sand
3. Cinnamon Girl
4. Helpless
5. After The Gold Rush
6. Only Love Can Break Your Heart
7. Southern Man
8. Ohio
9. Needle And The Damage Done, The
10. Old Man
11. Heart Of Gold
12. Like A Hurricane
13. Comes A Time
14. Hey Hey, My My (Into The Black)
15. Rockin' In The Free World
16. Harvest Moon

From the album notes: How does one represent the career of one of the most distinctive, powerful singer/songwriters of the 20th century in the space of a single CD? By keeping it simple and sticking to the milestones. That's exactly what GREATEST HITS accomplishes, by presenting 16 of Neil Young's most beloved compositions. The gritty, fuzz-guitar fury of Young's work with Crazy Horse ("Cinnamon Girl," "Hey Hey, My My [Into the Black]") brushes up against the acoustic-based, country-tinged "Old Man" and "Only Love Can Break Your Heart," as well as haunting, soul-baring ballads such as "The Needle and the Damage Done." Few would deny that the 1970s were Young's richest decade, and this collection strongly focuses on those years, skipping most of Young's genre-hopping '80s albums and grandfather-of-grunge '90s recordings, but the gems from those years would make a rewarding sequel to this concise, sterling anthology.

Disc 5: Guster Live On Ice CD

Guster has in the last two years leaped into my favorite current band - especially live. If you've ever seen a Guster concert (and you should!) you will immediately fall in love with them. The music is raw and powerful - lots of acoustic guitar and sounds and plenty of big drum and bongo beats. The lyrics are simple yet powerful. Guster has for years been hugely popular among college populations and stations - but their music (like Demons and the Airport Song) are hitting it big time and onto MTV. Their shows are sold out and they play with the like of Howie Day (who I actually dislike) and other acoustic rockers. Excellent album - my personal favorite of the last 3 years!!

1. Careful
2. Happier
3. Red Oyster Cult
4. Ramona
5. Barrel Of A Gun
6. Flowers, (Nothing But)
7. Come Downstairs And Say Hello
8. Demons
9. Amsterdam
10. I Spy
11. Airport Song
12. Homecoming King
13. Fa Fa

Disc 6: Guster Lost & Gone Forever CD

Of Guster's studio albums, Lost and Gone Forever is my favorite because it shows a more emotional and versatile side of Guster. There are the drum heavy and rocking songs like Barrell of a Gun and What you Wish For - but there are the slower, more powerful songs like Happier and SO Long. Lost and Gone Forever showcases the creativity and various skills of Guster as each song moves from one style and beat to the next. The end result is a CD that is made for open-window drives and beach days.

1. What You Wish For
2. Barrel Of A Gun
3. Either Way
4. Fa Fa
5. I Spy
6. Center Of Attention
7. All The Way Up To Heaven
8. Happier
9. So Long
10. Two Points For Honesty
11. Rainy Day
