Hello,
Like many when you go to purchase a Monitor for your computer your not really sure which one to buy? Do you look just at the price? besides the difference between the two 19 inch widescreen monitors don't look different do they besides the price. Well there is a big difference and a lot you should look for in a monitor.
There are three main things you should look for in a monitor. First decide which size you will want, normally a 19 inch widescreen is the normal size now a days, but it all depends. I myself have a 24 inch LG although that is because I do Web Design.
Second you will want to look at the Contrast Ratio, this is going to determine how black the blacks are and white the whites are. The higher the contrast ratio the better! Do not purchase any monitor with a contrast ratio lower then 500:1 I would go wouldn't buy anything below 1000:1.
Third is the response time. This is how fast your screen refreshes. This is not so important for the average user but very important for gamers. The Lower the response time the better. The average will be around 7ms although I would try and get 2ms.
Oh and you will also want to look at the brightness of the monitor for the average is 300 cd/m which is alright but if you can get one with 400 cd/m brightness that would be ideal.
Now that you've learned about monitors the fact is there is one brand of Monitors that stand out among all others and that is the new line of LG monitors. As of 4/02/08 LG has released a new line of Monitors that blows every other monitor out of the water. Each of their new Monitors have 10,000:1 contrast ratio with a 2ms response time. I honestly couldn't believe it when I saw it. While other monitors are around 800:1 they can't compare to the quality of LGs.
Now I'm not saying that every user should go out and get a LG although you will want to take into consideration all these numbers when purchasing a monitor. For the average user will honestly not tell the difference between one monitor to the next, but its always good to know what you are buying.
And as for Gamers you really would like to find a monitor with a quick response time, high contrast ratio, and high brightness.
Best of luck to all of you.
