Objective

What to wear for your body type, flatter your figure and enhance your assets, no matter what size or shape you are - Find clothing in stores, online and ebay while saving money - Feeling good about your body and being comfortable in your own skin - Finding clothing styles that work in your current lifestyle.

My story

I was always finding myself with a closet full of clearance rack items. Not too many of them looked great on me and I was never all that comfortable in them. I tried shopping on Ebay, getting the item in the mail and not having it fit or look right. Then one day I had an ephifany. Why not dress my body shape with clothes that make it look good!? Ah Ha! So I dug into some research and came up with own game plan.

I wanted to look my best. I wanted to have clothes taht fit my lifestyle and not someone else’s. I needed to work around my budget. I was going to look my best without a facelift or altering surgery - working with what I was given. So, with the knowledge of my body shape and some basic guidelines, I have clothes I love. I’ve stopped wasting money. I can shop just about anywhere. I’ve even found some amazing pieces on Ebay! So, here are my results...

Clothing tips

Check your panty line. Ban all panties that show through your pants. If you’re wearing white you better be wearing all-white undies!

If you bulge over or out of anything it doesn’t fit.

You don’t have to be a millionaire to have a great wardrobe - build with classics, shop at Goodwill, Rescue Mission, etc. When you know your best clothing shapes and lines, picking through racks is easier.

Don’t wear clinging clothes, but clothes that skim the body and show off shape.

No matter what size you are there is always shape there. Everyone has a flattering point even if it’s your wrist or your neck. Whatever ever it is, show it off.

You can find a killer looking business suit but if you’re a stay-at-home mom you might want to look for fab khakis and a super quality tee.

Be careful if it’s on the clearance rack there’s a reason it’s there - no one else wanted it either!

Overalls belong on kids or at the farm.

No woman over the age of 35 should wear skirts above the knee.

Slacks that are slightly too big make you look much skinnier than pants that are a bit too tight.

If you have to have the newest fad, shop at Ebay, Target, T.J.Maxx, or other lower end stores. Put your money into classic, timeless pieces.

If you haven’t worn it in 2 years, toss it!

 Color

Only wear shiny fabrics and bright color on areas that you are sure can stand up to being in the limelight.

Wear color with color. Don’t wear bright pink or turquoise with black. It cheapens the color.

If you have sallow skin, dark circles or bags, don’t wear black near your face, it only draws attention to it.

If you’re petite or of larger build, avoid a dramatic contrast between top and bottom as this will cut you in half.

If you’re small, opt for small patterns and vice versa.

Accessories

If you’ve got a large chest and you’re embarrassed to show off too much flesh in a v-necked top, wear a large necklace to cover the area.Don’t wear long pendants that sit in your cleavage if you have big boobs.

If you have a double chin or your face is chubby, go for longer earrings.

Put your money into traditional jewelry like pearls or diamonds. They’ll never go out of style and they’re fabulous heirlooms.

If you have a short neck, avoid large, choker-style necklaces.

Wear the newest fad in a great handbag or hip jewelry, you’ll save money when you can’t wear it next season.

Shoes

Shoes can complete or kill an outfit. You can see a woman who is beautifully dressed but can be disappointed by her footwear. So don't forget to look down...

If you have thick ankles, don’t wear delicate, strappy heels, ballerina-type shoes or ankle straps which cut across the ankle.

If you have thick, chunky platforms - they’re not in style anymore!

If you’ve got thick ankles never wear an ankle strap across you ankle, it makes it wider. If you’ve got skinny legs, little teetering heels look like they are going to snap because your body is heavier than your legs.

If you are heavier on the bottom and tiny on top, avoid kitten heels.

Pants and jeans should fall to the bottom of your heel.

Black shoes look best with darker colors - don’t wear black shoes with light-colored clothing unless they are extremely delicate.

If you want to create a longer leg and look a little taller, pointy shoes will do it - just try them, they're not as uncomfortable as they look!

 Jeans and pants

Petite women should avoid boot-cut jeans (and pants), and wear jeans with a straight leg. They can make your thighs look heavy and your legs shorter. Stay away from cuffed jeans.

Hide your belly bulge with a great boot-cut jean can help to balance out a heavier middle. If you have a tummy you usually have thinner limbs; the thicker your limbs, the worse a boot cut will look on you. Look for a mid-rise, and make have your jeans or pants lay across the belly, not above or below it. The width of the leg can also help create a more balanced bodyline.

Women with wider hips should go with a mid-rise jean that is slightly on the lower side in order to fit around the widest part without creating love handles. Look for a straight leg or a pant leg, which falls down from the hips to create a longer-looking leg line.

Look for jeans that are made with a lower rise in the front and a higher rise in the back, which can help fit a larger fanny. Stay away from any kind of flap pocket or pockets with heavy embellishment or embroidery—they only call attention to your backside. Vice versa if you have a pancake fanny.

For well blessed up top, choose a jean that has a lighter wash, some bleaching on the leg or whiskering. Distressed denim helps add volume to the lower half without adding actual bulk and helps balance the body line.

 Bras

Always make sure your bra is lighter or the same color as the clothes you’re wearing. If you have big breasts - it’s essential to wear a bra that fits you properly; a good bra will lift “your girls” and give definition to the waist. My favorite site: www.bravissimo.com

Small breasts look good in bras with ‘chicken fillet padding’ and a draw-string front. Underwire - Wire circumference is crucial. Your underwire should surround and support your breast—not poke into it. If the wire pulls away from the body in the center, then the cup size is too small. The cups should be secure against the breasts with the center of the underwire flush against the cleavage area.

Most women don’t like to accept their true bra size. But, remember, your bra size is like your shoe size…if the shoe fits, nobody else needs to know the size! You’ll feel more comfortable and attractive in the correct cup size, whether it’s an A or E. As the Lycra relaxes, your bra will become looser on the body.

Handwash your bras ONLY - never machine wash. Recommended life for a bra is 6 months.

Getting a bra fitted - You measure just under your breasts first, that gives you your chest size (i.e.36,38,40...). Then you measure around the fullest part of your breasts, going around your back and across your nipples. Then you subtract the first number from the second. 2 inch = B, 3 inch = C, 4 inch = D, 5 inch = DD (E), 6 inch = DDD (F).

Please check for Part 2 of my series.... body shapes and how to specifically dress them! Thanks!
