There are three crucial items that separate a tuxedo from an everyday suit. First and foremost, the jacket lapels of a tuxedo are covered in a satin material. Suit lapels are usually made of the same material as the rest of the jacket. Secondly, tuxedo trousers feature a matching satin stripe going down the outer leg of the pants. Last but not least, a tuxedo should always be worn with a pair of patent leather shoes (whether real or not). Yes, the shiny ones. Tuxedo shoes are the crowning touch on every formal wear ensemble.
