What is the Littlest Pet Shop?
The Littlest Pet Shop is a syndicated children's show based on a Hasbro toy line. The Littlest Pet Shop originally aired in 1995, and it was produced by the Sunbow Entertainment Company. The show followed the adventures of several pet store friends as they received magical presents, dealt with humans, and avoided being eaten by the gila monster named Delilah.
Michael Donovan voiced the blue dog Stu, while Garry Chalk gave personality to the Sarge character. From Chloe the cat to Chet the horse, the characters of The Littlest Pet Shop were eminently memorable. Elwood, for instance (the human pet shop owner), would often get anomalous mailings which led to trouble/adventure for the main characters.
The Littlest Pet Shop play set has been enjoyed by kids of all ages. Some pets actually do tricks for you when you press them. Others enjoy special foods. Kids love putting these tiny creatures into the spinning tower and giving them a whirl. While The Littlest Pet Shop is typically marketed to girls, boys and adult collectors are glomming on to the trend.
Milton Bradley has also published a game based on these miniature animals. This two to four player board game features 16 tokens, a spinner, and a roll and move game design. The idea is to journey to four target locations. These places recall the adventures of Mumsy, Elwood's mom. Fan sites for The Littlest Pet Shop abound, and favorite characters include Squeaks the monkey and Viv the rabbit.
