What is 'Shill Bidding?'

There's been a bit of hype on eBay lately regarding 'Shill Bidding', so I thought I'd let you know exactly what it means.

Shill Bidding is the term used to describe when you, your employees, family members or someone you know places 'false' bids onto your auctions to increase the end sale price for other bidders.

Now don't get any idea's, not only has this never been allowed on eBay, but there can also be severe penalties for anyone caught Shill Bidding, as one greedy jeweller found out the hard way..........

A New York jewellery company allegedly started their no reserve auctions as low as 99 cents, and over a one year period, him and his employees made over an incredible 232,000 bids to 'illegally drive up the prices' to make a total of around $5 million in bids!

So how did he get caught you may ask?

Well eBay monitors all the bids on eBay and also records the IP addresses from where these bids are placed.

They can see if the same person is constantly bidding on their own items and will more than likely suspend or cancel your account, and even report you to law enforcement, like they did with the jeweller.

Not only is he suspended from selling anything on eBay, he has also been fined $400,000 in restitution and penalties, which is a lot
considering he may not have actually got his hands on the $5 mill!

So, do you want to know a better way to keep your eBay costs down the legal way?

Keep your eyes peeled for any eBay promotions that often happen, like this weekend.....you can list your services for free* and save
up to $20 per listing. (*see eBay for the terms and conditions)

Another great idea to keep in mind is not to neglect your eBay store. For around 10 cents, you can list any item with a starting price up to $19.99 for a full 30 days and although your store items don't show up in the search engines, you'll find most people will also check out your other
items for sale once they've already purchased something from you.

Until next time, keep selling!!
