"BLACK BOOK OFFICIAL USED CAR MARKET PRICE GUIDE"
Automotive market data is an invaluable resource that is used by auto dealers, wholesalers and banks.
Though many consumers are generally aware of Kelley Blue Book, N.A.D.A. and perhaps the international "Red Book", amongst other numerous on-line pricing options, yet Black Book was the original. Black Book was started in 1955 and continues to this day to provide some of the most reliable automotive pricing data out there. Raw market data is collected from numerous venues: Auto Auctions, New Car Dealerships, the Banking and Insurance Industries and is then collated and made available only to those "in the business" via a costly subscription. This National Automotive Research can be available specifically for a particular vehicle class (ie: Coupes/ Sedans, Commercial Vehicles, etc.) or in a smaller, less complete weekly regional guide (ie: Southeast, Northwest or PA, TX, etc.). This pocket-sized pricing guide features wholesale prices for Cars, Trucks, SUVs and Vans from usually the most current 6 model years. An optional "Older Vehicle Price Guide" is also available for most models from the mid to later-1990's.
- These monthly and weekly price guides are only available to those "in the business" through a costly annual subscription.
- Used to accurately price wholesale, retail and bank loan values; in both clean and average conditions.
- Listing many types of Passenger Cars, Trucks, SUVs and Vans from both Foreign and Domestic manufacturers.
- Detailed optional equipment pricing shows additions and deductions for each make and model.
- All copies include an excessive and low mileage guide for all vehicles.
- Each convenient, pocket-sized 3" by 4" National Guide is an information-packed 480+ page resource.
- As vehicles depreciate, most prices tend to vary by $50-$200 per month, depending on the particular model.

Each alphabetical vehicle listing can mention numerous *Add* and/ or *Deduct* items for each year, make and model.
some examples:
"+$500 Dual Air - LT"... Meaning: Add $500 to the base price if the vehicle has Dual Air Conditioning (both Front and Rear) as it is optional equipment on the 'LT' model.
or perhaps:
"-$400 W/O 3rd Seat - EXC SPT"... Meaning: Deduct $400 to the base price if the vehicle is without a 3rd row seat, except in the case of the 'Sport' model, where it is simply not available.
or perhaps:
"+$600 Off-Rd Pkg - 4WD SLT"... Meaning: Add $600 to the base price if the vehicle has the "Off-Road" Package, which is optional only on a 4wd 'SLT' model.
____________________
Each individual vehicle listing also notes a "Mileage Category" as A, B, C, etc. By consulting the back of the guide and comparing the mentioned "Mileage Category" w/ the appropriate vehicle year and mileage range one can determine if an add or deduct to the base price is applicable given the vehicle's actual mileage.
____________________
Once the base vehicle price, any optional additions or deductions and the appropriate mileage adjustment has been determined then a fair-market value for the vehicle in question can be fully understood.

Please realize that true market value can be terribly comparative, also being dependent on the mechanical soundness and the overall physical condition of a vehicle. However, though proper due diligence and the correct usage of a Black Book Price Guide or similar pricing tool you can endeavor to:
Find yourself "one up" against the competition - understand what your dealer knows!
Be certain to understand the value of your trade-in before you visit your local dealer!
Arm yourself with the true value of your own vehicle or one you're looking to purchase!
Look for automotive research and pricing tools on eBay NOW!
