I am writing this little guide to give you information on Popcorn Weasel Puppets. My wife and I developed this little character early this year (2006). Being in full time family ministry, we are constantly trying to come up with new puppet characters to use in our programs. I have used a rabbit in the hat puppet for many years and have always enjoyed the response of this nonverbal character (the rabbit). A non-verbal puppet is one that does not talk or have a voice - you simply utilize movements and objects to get a point across. Things such as having the puppet whisper things in your ear, having the puppet bring objects out of the hat to give you or simply drop on the floor. Believe me there are many, many things you can do with a Rabbit in the Hat Puppet. Don't even think about selling out the old rabbit in the hat - it is still a GREAT ITEM! One day, my wife simply said, how about a puppet coming out of a box of popcorn? I thought about it for a moment and said, hmmmm, sounds interesting. Well, thus we now have popcorn weasels! The popcorn weasel operates on a similar principal as the Rabbit in the Hat, but it is a weasel character that pops out of a box of popcorn. The popcorn weasel can be used as a non-verbal character or if you are a ventriloquist, you can give him or her a voice. Imagine this: You walk out in front of the audience with a big box of popcorn. They can see that it is a huge box, and the popcorn is in plain site. You ask, "Does anybody like popcorn?" Of course you can guess the response from a group of kids. Then as you are talking, up comes the weasel and popcorn goes everywhere. Of course it is definetly a surprise that the audience did not expect. Everybody expects the rabbit when they see you walk out with a black magician's hat, but who would expect something poping out of a box of real popcorn (non-buttered or course). So if you are a avid user of the rabbit in the hat, you might want to consider a popcorn weasel to add to your act. It is unique and different. Popcorn weasels come in many colors and have already found homes all over the world. You are not going to find these guys just anywhere. But you never know where one might pop up!
