Since the Prehistoric Era people have worn leather, but in the twentieth century, the black leather jacket became the symbol of the outlaw when it was used as protective outerwear for motorcycle enthusiasts. Rock stars and punks later latched on to this “bad boy” image of black leather, but leather jackets eventually found mainstream favor when manufacturers began creating leather in a variety of styles and colors, such as the brown bomber jacket and haute couture skirts and blazers. A leather jacket is a type of clothing, a jacket made of leather the jacket has usually a brown, dark grey or black color. Leather jackets can be styled in variety of ways and different subcultures in places and times. For instance the leather jacket have often been associated with bikers, military aviators, punks, and police which have worn versions designed for protective purposes and often for their potentially intimidating appearance. There is a substantial difference between leather jackets made for fashionable purposes and for protective purposes (for activities like motorcycle riding) leather jackets designed for protective use are safety equipment designed to protect the wearer from serious injury and are heavier, thicker, and often equipped with armor.

Becoming a very practical item of clothing regardless of the symbolism invested in them by popular culture.

A leather jacket primarily designed for fashion purposes is not likely to be much use in a motorcycle accident. Leather is a material created through the tanning of hides, pelts and skins of animals, primarily cow. Leather is a very important clothing material and its other uses are legion. There are several types of leather jackets cowhide, pigskin, lambskin, and buffalo. Cowhide known as one of the toughest skins available depending on the thickness it can be used for biker jackets in its thickest form or fashion jackets when it is thinner and treated to make it softer. Pigskin also widely used, pigskin is also an all around favorite. Lambskin is considered the most luxurious of skins; lambskin is definitely the softest and smoothest usually used for some of the more fashion forward designs, this skin is everything you ever wanted for a classy, stylish look. Buffalo usually only used for biker type apparel, buffalo is a tough and probably tougher then the thickest cowhide. Many famous brands carry leather jackets for example Avirex, Sean John, Rocawear, Kenneth Cole, Calvin Klein e.t.c. Leather has become a popularized fashion item to have and that’s why it is sold all over the world.
