We get this question a lot here at Metal Shop Music. The answer is complicated and simple. The simple answer first. It is the most versatile guitar neck any serious working musician can find without having an arsenal of guitars at every gig.
Now the technical explanation:
The compound radius offers the best of both worlds in Strat necks. Both world being VINTAGE and MODERN. Many of today's players have a wide variety of influences and playing styles and a compound radius neck accomodate that very well. Older strats had smaller radius which made the chording and twangy leads in the lower neck positions very distinctive. However, players were very limited with bends and leads on the higher frets. The age old concept of "fretting out". This refers to going into a screaming lead and bending a bit to far or doing a run a little to fast and the fretboard does not respond to your actual expression in that moment.
The compound radius solves this issues by gradually progressing from a 9.5 radius in the lower positions to a 12" radius in the higher frets. This allows traditional Strat tones and accomodate the shredder in all of us who like to take a walk up to the high registers for some ear piercing shreds and bends. The best way to get a feel for this neck is to try it. They are very affordable and if you try one of ours we have a satisfaction guarantee. You have nothing to lose and everything to gain by trying your hand at one of the greatest innovations the strat has seen in a long time!
Thanks again and stay tuned for more!
