Warning:  This is for beginners only.

So perhaps you inherited some brass trains?  You may have heard they are worth a lot of money, but how much?  Our new book titled "The Brass Train Guide Book" tells all about these models, and lists the market values.  However I'd like to give you a quick answer to some of your possible questions, and let you know how you can use eBay to help!

Here are some questions you may ask?
  • I Know Nothing About Trains, How Do I Know if it is Brass?  Look at the box.  The average HO scale brass train box is at least 6-8" X 8-12".  And an O scale box would likely be at least twice that size.  Look for names on the box like, Key Imports, Overland, Precision Scale Co, Oriental Limited, Challenger Imports, Division Point, Pacific Fast Mail, W&R, Custom Brass, or Sunset.  These are all brass trains.
  • Are All Brass Trains Gold Colored? NO.  Many are painted, but they are still brass.  In fact often factory painted, or professionally painted models can be worth even more than unpainted models!
  • How Much Are They Worth? That can vary greatly.  The average HO steam engine can be worth $150-1500 each.  The average brass car can be worth $75-300 each.  You can purchase a price guide, such as the one mentioned above, or look on eBay, in particular under completed listings.  Try to find a model similar to yours.  Or you can call a reputable brass train dealer.  If you choose that route you may want to call a few dealers.
  • I Just Want To Sell Them On eBay, What Do I Need To Know? Check out this guide. Brass Train Guide
If you have a large amount of brass trains they can be very valuable.  Take your time, and do some research.  I wish you well on your endeavors!
