Nag Champa incense has been a top selling fragrance for nearly 40 years. Its blend of sandalwood, musk, halmadii resin and other ingredients has been copied more often than any other incense recipe. It has a complex aroma which is deep, Earthy, light, musky and floral at the same time. Due to its unusual aromatic blend it is popular for many purposes from meditation and worship to background fragrance or covering undesirable odors.

Nag Champa is often associated with various groups, but its appeal is much wider than the Hippie culture or other elements its popularity is commonly attributed to. It has grown into a wide array of fragrant products including soaps, perfume oils, massage oils, sachets and even candles. Nearly every incense company in India makes a version of this popular scent, but all are not created equal. However, not being identical to the current formula of the original Nag Champa can be a good thing.

Unfortunately, the original, popular, Satya Sai Baba Nag Champa has drastically changed its formula moving away from the natural forest resins which gave it its unique fragrance and popularity in favor of ingredients which are easier to work with and less costly to obtain. Over the past few years the formula has continually been changing, and each batch is less like the original recipe than the last.

The best of the Nag Champas currently available is made by the Shanthimalai trust, a charitable organization providing employment for women and disabled individuals in India. Their formula has not been altered from the original, and it has always been a little richer than the more common versions by Satya and Goloka.

          If you are just looking for a fine fragrance and aren't particularly attached to the Nag Champa scent then you will surely want to try some of the other aromas from Satya Sai Baba. Although, Nag Champa has been altered, the other incenses made by this company still have their original, excellent aromas. In fact, the other scents which we introduced you to several years ago have grown in popularity.
