Name: From the Latin, fluere = "to flow" (for its use as a flux). The term fluorescence is derived from fluorite, which will often markedly exhibit this effect. The element fluorine also derives its name from fluorite, a major source for the element.

Fluorite is found as a common gangue mineral in hydrothermal veins, especially those containing lead and zinc minerals. It is also found in some greisens, granites and high-temperature veins, and as a component of some marbles and other metamorphic rocks.

Where was fluorite found?
There are a lot of countries where fluorite can be found and prime among them are England, Germany, Switzerland, Norway, Ontario, Mexico and Canada. You can also found them in the United States of America and the states where the occurrence of fluorite happens include Missouri, Kentucky, Illinois, Arizona and Texas. There are some other states in US also are there where you can find the occurrence of fluorite and Oklahoma is primary among them.

If we talk of the substance itself that is known as Fluorite, it is a kind of mineral that is composed of calcium fluoride. The mineral is considered as an isometric one and its distinct feature of it is that it has the cubic habit. Sometimes you can also find the mineral in octahedral form but it is not as common as the cubic one. So, with the use of the above described features you can easily recognise the mineral.
