Capilene is the name that Patagonia uses to describe the fabric employed in the construction of water hating clothing.... the best option for high-sweat activities and wet conditions. Basically, it is polyester with a hydrophilic surface finish. Then Patagonia adds Gladiodor, an antimicrobial finish to inhibit bacterial growth and offensive odors. It is an environmentally friendly additive that is naturally derived from amino acid chains... nonpolluting and safe for humans.
Capilene is very popular with the most active athletes, whether it's for underwear, shirts and shorts for the biking enthusiasts, or as a base layer for mountain climbing or extreme weather conditions. The flexibility and soft touch of the fabric is far superior to wool. (and it doesn't itch !!)
CAPILENE COMES IN FOUR WEIGHTS
- Capilene 1 is lightweight and silky ... wear it alone or as a baselayer.
- Capilene 2 is best suited for aerobic use in mild to cool temperatures.
- Capilene 3 is an awesome baselayer in cold weather
- Capilene 4 comes with an inside facing grid pattern and is specifically designed for maximum warmth in the coldest conditions.
RECYCLE YOUR WORN OUT CAPILENE
When your favorite capilene garment is worn to shreds, either send it back to Patagonia or drop it in one of their in-store recycling bins. Patagoina will recycle the fabric into new polyester garments.
