First of all, let me say that this is just a basic estimate and every baby is different! Also, you don't have to jump in cloth diapering all at once. There's nothing wrong with making a slow transition, testing out different things, and seeing what you like best before making a major investment! That being said, here is a list of what we suggest that you'll need to cloth diaper full time:

Option A:
Prefolds or Flats and diaper covers.
We suggest at least 2 dozen prefolds and 4 diaper covers. to get started.

Option B:
Pockets and Inserts
We suggest 20 Pocket diapers if you plan on using pocket diapers exclusively. Otherwise, 6-10 pockets to be used in combination with other systems. You will also need as many inserts as you have pockets (prefolds also work but are more bulky). Momma Commune boutique provides a free microfiber insert with each pocket diaper, so no worries about that!

Option C:
Fitteds & Covers
We suggest 2-3 dozen fitted diapersand at least 3 diaper covers (because these diapers hold in messes better, you can reuse your covers more times before washing).

Option D:
All-in-Ones (AIOs)
If you will be using AIOs exclusively, We suggest 18-20 diapers. Otherwise you may want 2-4 AIOs for convenience / to keep in your diaper bag.

Want my advice? (I am going to pretend that you just said yes now, ok?)

Start small. Try out a few things before buying a lot of any one style. There is no reason that you can't make the transition over time! I would much rather you buy one diaper and love it than buy 100 diapers and be less than thrilled.

Don't believe the hype. Just because *everyone* is raving over a particular diaper this week, it does not mean that it's the best thing for you or your baby. Try one or two before converting your entire stash to something you may or may NOT love as much as someone else!

More expensive does NOT mean better! I probably shouldn't be saying this... you know.. seeing as how selling diapers is my job.. but it's TRUE! Just because something costs more - it does not necessarily mean that it is of better quality or easier to use than the diapers that cost less. Try prefolds. Try fitteds. Try covers. Try whatever you want to try! They are not lesser systems. In fact, many will tell you that they're superior (and WAY easier on your budget!!)

People always ask me what I like to use on my own son, so I'll fill you in on that too. We are pretty much a pocket diaper household. I am one of those people who gets bored easily, so our stash has a little of everything in it. AIOs, pockets, prefolds, covers, fitteds, etc. I love variety! However, I always seem to reach for our pocket diapers first! Even my husband likes to use those! For night time diapering, we always use a happy hempy fitted diaper, hemp inserts, and a deluxe fleece stacinator cover. Sure, it's bulky... but hey... it keeps the family bed dry!

Oh, one more thing.. You're going to need more than just diapers, Momma! At the very least, you need a diaper pail liner, a wet bag, and some cloth baby wipes. Using disposable wipes is just plain silly. I think that tossing your wipes into the dirty diaper is a universal parenting habit - and NO ONE wants to pull them out of there on wash day. Not to mention, if you forget to fish those things out, you're going to be dealing with shredded paper all over your precious diapers!! Eeeeew!

OK, I am done rambling. Swear.
