Intro + Psycho Babble
Many people don’t seem to realize that something as simple as colors that we see throughout our daily lives can actually have an impact on our moods and thus can shape how we go about our days. Albeit, sometimes these effects are only temporary feelings, but whose to say that overtime if we surround ourselves with particular colors that we won’t actually change how we go about our lives?
Now some people may be skeptical, but look at it in this sense. We know that something like an apple is good for us, but if we eat one apple throughout the course of our lives that doesn’t mean we’re healthy nor does it have an immediate impact upon eating it. However, if we were to have one a day then well... I don’t have a Ph.D, but I’m sure we’ll come out healthier overall. Another idea is the effects of music on our personalities which I believe is a bit self explanatory. Certain types of music can convey feelings of excitement, happiness, sadness, love among many other things.
Using the above logic what if we expand the “what we eat” and “what we hear” to include “what we see” it’s possible to choose colors to inspire feelings or even detract from the natural feeling of stressful environments like perhaps the workplace. Some people seem to under estimate what colors can infact do for you and just go with what looks nice, but it’s something you may want to seriously think about when perhaps doing things like designing your house.
Of course this is an auction site so don’t forget that you communicate through your pictures / words to customers then why not choose colors that may aid in attracting them, earning trust or perhaps even increasingly the likelihood of a sale.
Colors, feelings and where you may wish to use them
Bare in mind some of this is personal feelings from either myself or articles I’ve read. You may or may not have the same results, but feel free to be creative and try your own ideas out. Some colors can do more for someone that perhaps others and of course vice-versa.
• Yellow - Think Sun: Rejuvenating, energizing, positive (temporary), inspires creativity, easy going, and optimistic.
Beware: Overexposure can lead to irritability.
Idea: - Home Office or Kitchen.
• Red - Think Fire: Exciting (adrenaline), arousing, sexuality/passion, power, urgency, increase appetite.
Beware: Overexposure may lead to aggression.
Idea: Good for bedrooms where a sense of intimacy is desired. Or even the color of your clothing if you want a little... rawr rawr... woof woof, hubba hubba :)
• Blue - Think Ocean: Calming/relaxing, peaceful, wise, trustworthy, reliable, suppresses appetite.
Beware: Dark shades may create a feeling of jealousy.
Idea: Good for a bedroom where you wish to relax. It perhaps may be good for a children’s room if you have the kind that bounce off the walls. You may want to wear blue at meetings or job interviews or even your auctions since it promotes trust.
• Green - Think Nature: Stabilizing, refreshing, emotional growth, abundance, comforting, life/health.
Beware: Certain shades lead to envy, jealousy, or sickness (unhealthy).
Idea: Good for pretty much everywhere in the house.
• Orange: Cheery, social, increases appetite, charity, carefree (mental clarity), fun, content
Beware: Unknown.
Idea: Welcoming color so perhaps a living room.
• Purple - Think Nobility: Comforting, safe, sophisticated, mystery, intuitive, luxury, creativity, wisdom, elegance, authority.
Beware: Perhaps a snob/stuck up feeling?
Idea: Since it's a partial blue/red feeling it can probably go into the bedroom or living room scenes.
• Black - Independence, authorizes, strength, elegant, seductive, modern.
Beware: Overexposure can lead to a dark personality; perhaps nightmares and the idea of feeling confined (make the room appear small).
Idea: Seems like a secondary type color to use in a home because of its modern feeling, but not exactly something you want to paint your entire walls. It's also of course well known in regards to clothing as it makes people appear thinner.
• Brown: Life, earth, family.
Beware: Dirty
Idea: Certain shades may work nicely in a living room aka family room.
• White - Clear, pure, light, makes things appear larger.
Beware: Uninspiring.
Idea: It mainly seems like something you use as a backdrop for something you want to kind of pop out more at you if that makes sense. Perhaps like having a painting on a white wall. The wall itself is almost ignored, but the painting is soo full of life. Clothing wise it makes you appear larger
• Pink - Soothing, affection and congeniality.
Beware: Sometimes classified as more of a youth color.
Idea: A young child’s room and if you're bold enough you may be able to use it almost anywhere. Let's be honest... who can get angry in a pink room? Except perhaps a surprise paint job by the wife and the husband comes home to sees it. :P
Farewell
Hopefully I’ve opened you up to the world of colors or may have expanded what you may have already known. So before you paint your homes, buy accessories, your car or even think about what you want to wear you should definitely try to think ahead of time as to what feeling you want to convey so you either don’t give the wrong impression or provide exactly what you were hoping for.
Best of luck with everything and if you have any comments or ideas you think I should add feel free to message me.
Also, if you enjoyed this guide then please take the time to give it a helpfulness vote. It’ll go a long way in helping me … “Pinky are you thinking what I’m thinking?”
