The most common forms of eBooks are the EXE, PDF, and MS Word formats. eBooks
are electronic books that you can download to your computer and read from your
personal computer. In most cases you will need a separate program to open and
view the eBook itself. The EXE eBook is about one of the only eBook formats that
you needn't have another program. EXE stands for an executable file, whereas the
eBook will open and run without the aid of additional software. However, the PDF
and the MS Word formats will require the use of additional software such as the
Adobe Acrobat Reader and the Microsoft Word programs.
The most universal format for eBooks is fast becoming the PDF file. Adobe
Acrobat has this for businesses all the way to individual use. In most cases,
you will need to have installed version 4.0 or higher, since that most of the
newer eBooks allow the publisher to set the eBook settings to allow this. And it
is in your best interest as an author or publisher to allow for the 4.0 version
and above, since these are the most commonly used versions.
Adobe Acrobat Reader does have some related glitches and problems with the
use of the reader and/or publishing software. Adobe carries the Adobe Acrobat
Reader and the Adobe Acrobat Writer/Distiller, which is how you publish most of
the white papers and eBooks with. The glitches generally are as follows:
1) When typing in the password, they are case sensitive; however you MUST use
the <Shift>; key and NOT the <Caps Lock> key for capitalization of the letters.
Using the <Caps Lock> key can cause your eBook not to open.
2) You MUST have only one version of Adobe Acrobat installed on your computer
hard drive. If you have more than one version, then this is many cases will
cause your PDF software not to run properly when opening the eBook.
3) With some publishing writer's or distiller programs, the font most
commonly used and widely accepted for use, is the Times New Roman font or the
Arial font. In some cases, some of the publishing software for the PDF will
not allow any other fonts to be used, or it may cause problems with the eBook
opening.
With the EXE eBook, there are also some problems that are associated with the
use of these type format eBooks. On a Macintosh computer, in almost every
instance, an EXE will NOT open for use. This can be a huge problem for Macintosh
users, but there are Windows computer programs that will convert these EXE files
and allow them to run on a Macintosh computer. They are available on the
internet and all one needs to do to find one of these programs is to do a search
in almost any search engine. You will need a compiler for the EXE eBook creation.
The MS Word format eBook is also a quick and easy program to use to make
eBooks. In fact the beginning stages of the PDF format generally are used in the
MS Word program to create the eBook, and then you print it into the Adobe
Acrobat Distiller or PDF Writer to convert it for PDF use. Microsoft Word is on
many of the worlds computers and is one of the most respected word processing
programs on the internet. There are others used, but MS Word is the most
commonly and wide-spread used program, especially for PDF eBooks. You also have
features where you can lock down or secure the MS Word format document. For
those computer users wishing to create an eBook, MS Word is what we most
recommend for use.
Good luck in your eBook creation! Anyone these days can become a publisher of
their own works or other's works easily. And these three formats are the most
popular eBook formats on the market. Open up any search engine or eBay auction
and you will see that nine times out of ten, these three formats are the type
most publishers and eBook sellers use.
