eChecks are the shortened name for electronic checks. This means that instead of receiving a paper check from your bidder, the bidder will fill out their banking information (bank account number, routing number) online.
In PayPal, once a bidder does this, they will send you an email with the subject "Notification of a Pending eCheck Payment Received", with the following information:
This eCheck Payment will remain "Uncleared" until the funds have cleared from the sender's account, which usually takes 4 business days. If you are shipping an item, please do not ship your item until the funds have cleared into your PayPal account. You will be notified by email when the funds have cleared into your PayPal balance.
Some will take longer than 4 business days, while others will clear faster.
Once the eCheck has cleared through PayPal, you will receive the"Notification of a Cleared eCheck Payment" from PayPal. Simply log into your account to confirm the buyers address and send your item to the customer.
You should never send the product before the eCheck clears. The odds of a bidder making a mistake when filling out the information is much greater than with a credit card payment. The bidder will also receive the cleared eCheck notice at the same time, although he or she may notice it clearing in the actual bank account a day or two earlier.
If you are a buyer and don't like sending an eCheck, please read my guide on "Upgrade to a PayPal Business Account (Best for ebayers)"
