There are several errors in the Pokemon series. There are a few that some on Ebay want you to think are error, but here is the list:
BASE SET POKEMON:
To start off the erros in base, the first one is Kakuna. This card was printed with "Length, Length" instead os "Length, Weight". This card was a printed error in the 1st edition set as well as the unlimited set.
The next base set error is Bulbasaur. This was also printed with the "Length, Length" error. Also in the 1st edition print as well as unlimited.
The next base error is Caterpie. On this error, the HP was printed as HP40 instead of the intended 40HP. This error was only printed in the 1st edition printing.
Metapod was also printed with an HP error, also only available in the 1st edition printing. It was printed with HP70 instead of 70HP. Only avaiable on the first edition print.
The next base card is Voltorb. This card was to read "easily mistaken for a Poke Ball" but the error reads "easily mistaken for a Monster Ball". Available on the 1st edition and unlimited print.
One of the most over looked base errors is the Machamp card. When tilting the card you can see the design of the holofoil. Base cards were made with stars in the holofoil. This error was printed with the cluster holofoil. The cluster holofoil was printed in the Team Rocket series.
The third most sought out error of the base set is the Diglett error. On Diglett's first attack, the fighting symbol was printed sideways instead of straight up and down. This is avaiable on the 1st edition as well as unlimited print.
The second most sought out error of the bae set is the Red Cheek Pikachu. The card was printed with Pikachu having red cheeks instead of yellow cheeks. This is available in 1st edition as well as unlimited. Most people believe the error is the red cheek jungle card. The jungle card was intended to have the red cheeks, the base card is the error.
Last we have the most sought out base card error. Ninetales is the most rare base set error. This card was printed missing the damage for its second attack, fire blast. This error was only printed in the 1st edition print. I stand corrected on the Ninetales card. This card was also available in the SHADOWLESS print run as well.
JUNGLE POKEMON ERROR'S
The first Jungle error card is Butterfree. Due to an ink bubble in printing, the 1st edition symbol looked like a lower case d.
The second Jungle error is the most sought out error in the Jungle series. The Pikachu Promo #1 (Ivy Pikachu). During the printing of the Jungle 1st edition series, some of the promo cards got ran threw. The error is the 1st edition black star promo #1 Pikachu.
The remainder of the Jungle error's contain the same error. These cards were printed missing the Jungle symbol. All are the unlimited print and all are holofoils. They include Clefable, Electrode, Flareon, Jolteon, Kangaskhan, Mr. Mime, Nidoqueen, Pidgeot, Pinsir, Scyther, Snorlax, Vaporeon, Venomoth, Victrebell, Vileplume and Wigglytuff. Again, all were printed without the Jungle symbol. That is 16 holofoils in all.
FOSSIL ERROR CARDS
There was only one error card for the Fossil series. Available in the 1st edition and unlimited print, we have Zapdos. On the upper left hand corner of the character box, there is an impression of an evolution box in the holofoil.
TEAM ROCKET ERROR CARDS
In the Team Rocket printing we have just one error as well. Dark Dragonite was printed as a NON holofoil but it was printed with the holofoil number on the bottom right corner. The card is Dark Dragonite 5/82 and it is a NON holofoil card.
POKEMON PROMO ERROR CARDS
The first promo error is the Dark Persian card. This card was printed with no HP on the upper right hand corner.
Last we have the most sought out error in all of the Pokemon series. This one card sets all collections above others. Very rare and only a few out there, is the prerelease Raichu. This promo slipped threw printing when prerelease Clefable was being printed. On the bottom right corner of the Raichu promo, you will see the prerelease stamp.
THESE ARE NOT ERRORS
Many on Ebay will try to make you believe that SHADOWLESS base cards are errors or misprints, they are not. There is a complete set available of SHADOWLESS base cards in 1st edition print as well as unlimited print. SHADOWLESS cards were changed by Wizards of the Coast, they are NOT errors or misprints. Those who list shadowless as misprints or errors are selling by false advertising. They are more valuable, but not as they are listed.
The next card that a few pass off as an error is the Dark Raichu Team Rocket card 83/82 How can you have a card 83 of 82? Ask Wizards, but it is not an error. If you look at any Rocket check list, it is there.
The Vulpix HP50 is also not an error. All of the Vulpix base cards were printed this way. What is even more a NEED TO HAVE on this card is the one were Wizards did print a few that have the HP being correct as 50HP. This card does exsist! There are only a few, but they are out there.
Dark Arbok slides in as a mistaken error as well. On the bottom of the card the copyright reads 1999-23000 Wizards. All of these cards were printed this way. The year 23000 sounds like an error to me but they are all that way, making this one not an error.
Last we have the famous reverse swastika Japanese trainer. The picture does have a reverse swastika, but it is not an error. The symbol is an actual Buddist symbol, the same one that hitler turned around to make the swastika.
There are a few more errors out there that will will add soon. Like the Ancient Mew error and a couple of others. Be sure to check out our other guides on Pokemon Fakes and Pokemon SHADOWLESS...
