This guide is to help you purchase your new or used Nitro tank.
The first thing to let you know is that Nitro and Compressed air tanks are the same. Many people think they are different becuase they are called different names. They are considered the same in the paintball world.
Buying a Nitro tank can be a little confusing if you do not already know what you are looking for so hopefully I can clear up the differences in tanks.
1. Most tanks/ auctions for tanks will state the size and pressure of the tank in a series of numbers (ex.. 45/4500, 68/3000, 68/4500 etc...). The first number is the size of the tank in CI ( cubic inches). This is the actual size of the bottle itself. The smaller the number the smaller the bottle. The most common tank on the market is the 68 size tank. The second number is the pressure the tank will hold. Tanks will hold 3000 or 4500 psi. Some tanks will say 5000psi but not all stores and fields can fill to this. The amount of shots you will get out of a tank will depend on both numbers. I have put a chart of estimated shots below.
2. The second thing that seperates the tanks is the material it is made out of. Some tanks are made of aluminum, some tanks made of steel, and some called fiber wrapped. The main difference will be the weight. The aluminum/steel tanks are much more cost effetive but tend to be heavy. The fiber wrapped tanks cost more in the beginning but tend to get more shots and are much lighter weight.
Tank Size est shots
47/3000 psi- 400-500
47/4500 psi- 700-800
68/3000 psi- 700-800
68/4500 psi- 1000-1100
88/4500 psi- 1300-1400
These are estimates for the average gun. Some guns get better efficiency some worse. If you see a tank listed with a different first number ( ex. 70/4500 ) you will use the closest number to it for your estimate. Many companies make tanks and are slightly different sizes.
BUYING USED
A main think to look out for when buying a used tank. This can be a little tricky. All Nitro tanks will need to be retested/certified at some point in their life. Some tanks are 3 years some are 5 years. Be very cuatious when purchasing a used tank if the date and retest date is not listed. Retesting a bottle can cost anywhere from $20-50 depending on where you go and the bottle is not garaunteed to pass. You have to pay the restest fee whether the bottle passes or not.
I hope I helped you out in your quest for the right tank. If not feel free to stop by our ebay store and email us and we will be glad to help out.
