-
"You poor thing" - cancer patients are not looking for pity, compassion is welcome.
-
"Let me know if there is anything I can do to help" - most times there is something but we do not know how to ask. Instead offer a suggestion, I am stopping by the video store, can I bring you something.
-
"My aunt died of breast cancer" - or any relative with any form of cancer. Offer a story of hope not of death.
-
"At least they caught it early" - you minimize the situation.
Instead try saying something like
I'm here for you, you are in my thoughts, or I love you.
It is not fair being crippled with a disease in what should be the highlight of my life. I do not smoke and do not have a smoking related cancer. My family has no history of cancer. This is just a quick note to those of you that find yourselves tongue tied. Please take a moment to read my other guides and reviews. If they were at all helpful can you please check the helpful box below. It is one of the small pleasure I can still enjoy while being hospitalized.
