There Have been many questions about what makes one COX Different than another. The name does not say it ALL. The factory made many different models of the COX Motors. We will go over just a few and I will add to this guide as time goes by.

Black Widow: This was one of the High Performance Cox 049 motors. It had a Black Long Range Fuel Tank It was in both plastic and metal and had both a plastic back plate and a metal one. The Crank Case was also Black Anodized and it was topped off with a red Anodized spinner in front. The prop crank washer came in several version depending on how old your black COX was. The crankcase was tapered and straight as well as a plain washer or one that had a hexnut end to it.

Golden Bee This was one name that was thrown about a lot. There were Two Items that every Golden Bee Had 1.a gold anodized long range tank. 2.a gold anodized crankcase. They both went together. We have seen many that were part one or part two  but not both. Sorry if you are going to say it is a Golden Bee it has to have both items. The older style Golden Bee's that came under Bubble Plastic cover on a cardboard holder. Also had a tendency to fade to a very interesting color because the dye used to anodize this motor did not have an Ultra Violet content to keep it from fading even in small amounts of light.

Killer Bee This was one of the First Truly HP motors it had a chrome moly crank and a teflon reed as well as a short Plastic back plate No Tank.

Venom Part No.140 This was the Big Dog on the block. it had a Red Anodized Crankcase A Chrome Moly Crankshaft, From the Killer Bee, that was hand fitted to the crankcase. The piston was Lightened by tapering it. and it was fitted to the cylinder. The Tank Was From a Black Widow, It also came with of all things THREE Copper Head Gaskets. Cox said that was so you could tune them on race day.If it you wanted you could change how high the compression was. That would let you run higher Nitro content in your fuel. If the weather changed you could meet it with more or less compression. One of the Really FUNNY remarks COX put in the instructions was that you were not supposed to run this engine faster than 22,000. Hey folks when we raced these motors we tuned them to run as fast as they would turn. If we could get 25,000 out of one we did it. take my word for it. A few things that Cox also recommended. Only clean the motor with Alcohol or Kerosene. To keep the motor in good shape with no rust or varnish you should use Marvel Mystery Oil as a lubricant. Also do not use sand paper on the cylinder to piston fit. to remove a varnish in the cylinder only use steel wool.
