I often get asked what I most love about my eBay business and why?
My answer's always the same and although it's hard to pick one thing, I'd have to say 'giving outstanding customer service' is my absolute favourite.
Even though it comes naturally to me because I'm a people person anyway, I also understand and nurture the real value that it brings me in many other ways.
Let me explain.
Have you ever bought something on eBay and even after you've paid for the item, you never hear a word from the seller? You have no idea when the item is going to be sent to you, plus you haven't a clue when or if it's going to turn up.
After a week or so goes by, still you don't hear a peep from the seller.
How does this make you feel inside?
Pissed off? Angry? Worried? Anxious? Embarrassed that you may have been taken for a ride? Uncertain? Ignored? Frustrated?
All the above?
I know how it feels don't worry. And these are the exact reasons I stay in touch with my customers every step of the way. They hear from me immediately after they've purchased from me, they hear from me once payment is cleared, then they get an email with tracking numbers on it and even the estimated time of arrival for their parcel!
How do you think this makes them feel?
Appreciated. Worthwhile. Important. Special. Happy. More forgiving if there's a hickup during the process. Smart. In Control. Confident. Assured. Excited. Relaxed.
In other words, they start spreading the good word of how great you and your business is. This brings more and more friends to see what you do and they buy from you too.
I even put them onto my newsletter BEFORE their parcel arrives.
They actually get a minimum of 3-5 points of contact from me during this whole process.
My promise is that I will ship within 24hrs of cleared payment. My customers especially love this and I deliver on that promise 100%.
My whole business is based on giving the best service out of any seller in my chosen categories. You'd be blown away at the repeat business and referal business I get because of it.
You may think I'm pedantic and overboard, but let me assure you, it brings me many, many more sales than what I'd otherwise get.
If you have an eBay business or you're thinking of starting one, make sure customer service is your number one priority over anything else. The money will come, don't you worry.
I hope to meet you at the McEbay day on the 10th February and just in case you didn't organise your seat, here's the link. I think it's full, but Brett will find a space for you :-) because it's an emergency.
