I have been looking at photos of various Morgans on ebay in the "alphabet soup" slabs of various grading services. I would like to provide my opinion, based on 40 years of collecting Morgan Dollars, as to the probable ANACS grades that would be assigned to the coins in those overgraded holders. This is based on the actual photos provided by the sellers themselves,  and is only my opinion. (I have handled literally thousands of slabbed coins, and have around 400 of my own to compare with). I will try to limit myself to no more than five coins per service.  Here we go:

WCG(World Coin Grading)-one major seller found(plus a few victims), appears to be one of the WORST(Call it Worst Coin Grading?) It does have a web site. Examples I have seen

1901-S MS65=MS60 Cleaned heavily

1878-S MS67DMPL=MS63 Heavily Cleaned, not even PL

1880 MS66=AU55 Heavily Cleaned

1882-S MS65PL=MS61 Not PL

1889-O MS66=AU55 Heavily Cleaned

NCGS-One major seller, apparently not so awful, but the pictures provided are usually not the best. It is hard to see whether the coins have been cleaned or not.

1921 MS65=MS64

1900 MS65=MS64 lightly Cleaned

1886 MS65=MS63

1884 MS65=MS64

1885 MS65=MS64

NAC(Numismatic Authentication Company)-One major seller, one of the worst, with many heavily cleaned coins

1878 MS66=MS62 Lightly cleaned

1891 MS67=MS61 Heavily Cleaned

1879-O MS67=MS62 Lightly Cleaned with a large scratch

1887-O MS66=MS60 Heavily Cleaned

1880-O MS66=MS61 Heavily Cleaned

ANGS is a newer one that just appeared on ebay. One major seller(so far). Very bad grading service that should be avoided at any price

1896-O AU50=VF30 heavily cleaned

1921-D MS65=MS60 lightly cleaned

1889 MS63=AU50 heavily cleaned

1896 MS67=MS62 lightly cleaned

1891-CC VF35=VG8 heavily cleaned

USCG is another very bad grading service, with one major seller. Here are some examples i have seen:

1892-S MS63=EF45 heavily cleaned

1892-CC AU58=AU50 lightly cleaned

1895-O MS65=AU50 heavily cleaned

1894-O MS66=AU55 lightly cleaned

1879-CC MS63=AU50 heavily cleaned

World Class Grading has one major seller and appears to be an in-house service for that seller. Not good, but better than some

1889 MS64=MS62

1889-O MS65=MS64 lightly cleaned

1885 MS65=MS63 Heavily cleaned

1886 MS64=MS62 lightly cleaned, scratched

1887 MS67=MS64 Heavily cleaned

SGS-Many sellers, also one of the worst, many cleaned coins

1887 MS67=MS63 Heavily cleaned

1887 MS67=MS60 Heavily Cleaned

1884-S MS62=AU50 Heavily cleaned

1879 MS66=MS61

OCC(Original Coin Certifiers)-one seller, apparently an in-house self-serving slab maker, many heavily cleaned coins

1879-S MS67PL=MS62 Heavily Cleaned, NOT PL

1890 MS67=MS60 Heavily Cleaned

1878-S MS67PL=MS61 Heavily Cleaned, not PL

1880-O MS67=MS62, Heavily Cleaned

Silver Dollar Coin Grading-One seller, really ridiculous grades

1879-CC MS65=EF45

1897-O MS66=MS62

1884-S MS66=AU55, Heavily cleaned

1886-S MS66=MS62, Lightly cleaned

1883-S MS63=EF40, heavily cleaned

GEC-One seller, unable to determine if coins were cleaned or not due to poor pictures-apparently not so bad

1884-O MS67=MS65

1887 MS67=MS65

1884-S MS64=MS62

Numismatic Grading Pros-One seller

1880-S MS67=MS63, heavily cleaned

1883 MS67=MS62

1900 MS67=AU55, heavily cleaned

1881-S MS67=MS61,lightly cleaned

1880 MS67=MS61, heavily cleaned

These equivalent grades are my opinion, based solely on the pictures provided by the seller. Most of these "services" are merely attempts to bilk the coin collecting public out of their hard-earned money. Many of these sellers offer no returns, or they charge "re-stocking" fees in an attempt to deter buyers from returning their junk. I would advise you to avoid any of these sellers. There are enough legitimate sellers out there to enable you to finish any collection. So good luck with your collecting.

For a list of all the evil so-called grading services I have seen on ebay, please read my other guide-I simply did not have room to list them all here

If you found this guide helpful(or not), please take a moment and rate it. It only takes a click of your mouse-Thanks
