Whew, there is a lot going on in this area. In the last two weeks I have recieved 12 capguns. Of the 12 guns, three of them were broken. One had the cap chamber broken on both sides. One was missing the latch to hold the cylinder in position. Another had been repaired by a total novice and had absolutely ruined the gun by burnishing rivits that were supposed to have either a dot or star design stamped into it. Another Schmidt capgun was missing the rivit that holds the grips on and they had been glued on with epoxy. All of these sellers professed to not know about the damage on the guns. How could you not know that a gun is broken in two places? Most of the dealers I know and deal with on a regular basis are straight up guys and honest as the day is long. But, there are those who are taking advantage of the booming cap gun/western popularity to sell damaged or fake items. Some of the fakes I personally have seen seen are fake Gene Autry pocket watches. Fake Gene Autry alarm clock. Lots of fake Roy Rogers pocket watches. Just keep in mind that all original Roy Rogers pocket watches have a lever on the side to operate the watch as a stop watch. None of the fake Roy Rogers pocket watches have a slide lever. Annie Oakley guns are being reproduced and I have seen some of them listed here as "vintage" with no indication of age. There are other guns being reproduced and most are sold as repos, but there are some that have not been listed that way. I believe I will stop at this point. Just keep in mind that you have to keep your head when bidding and look at the pictures under maximum magnification. I say this because I once paid $650 for a cap gun that arrived with a broken frame. I had not seen that break in any of the photos I had examined. I went back to the photos and realized the photos had been taken from every angle except the one angle that would have shown the break. The seller was trying to claim that the gun was broken intransit, but one photo showed a little less than 1/8th of an inch of the very beginning of the crack. This proved to settle the matter. So go ahead and buy whatever you wish in the western line, but check feedbacks and you will soon realize who is reputable.
