Remember,if it seems to good to be true,it usually is! As the late great P.T. Barnum once said; "There's a sucker born every minute". Don't you be one!
Also, do not hesitate to ask the seller who his so called "experts" are, or if the watch is original or not. You can usually tell when someone is trying to sell a bill of goods, but when in doubt, use the Westclox sites above.
They pictures of fakes including Ingraham,New Haven,Ingersoll,&Smiths.
A fake dial can be glued to ANY brand of watch.
When you spot what might be or is a fake, report it to Ebay. There is a link at the bottom of the page ,just click on it & follow the directions.
Do not be afraid to post it to the Westclox website either, just make sure it isn't already there. This site has help many people,I know it will help you. Good Luck!
Other people on the Westclox site can answer almost any question that you may have, just post & ask! The Westclox site has most of the same fake dials. Black Americana items are also usually fake also.
Check the Westclox,Ingraham,Ingersoll,Smiths,New Haven&Character Pocket Watch pages & you will find the same old fake dials by usually the same old sellers.

These papers dials are usually just glued over the original dial.
Westclox,Ingraham,New Haven, Ingersoll,&Smiths usually are the chosen brands.
You can see the sellers of these fakes buying these pocket watches for a very cheap price & then turning around & selling them for 100's of dollars!
I just saw here while back one of those,"one of a kind & rare Martin & Lewis Ingraham Pocket Watches". It went for over $400.00 dollars! The graphics are terrible!
Just a few weeks later,I saw another one of these for auction by the same seller,it brought over $400.00 again!
Can you say,"Oceanfront property in Arizona for sale!
One other clue a seller who almost always has more than one of these brazen fakes for sale.
Talk about laughing all the way to the bank!
Also,if they say they can't guarantee it's authenticity, then it most likley another fake & is supposedly not supposed to be listed on Ebay.
You can report these charletons to Ebay on the topic of Authenticity Disclaimer! If you see this, report it!
I wouldn't want it known that I paid $400 for a $10 watch,would you?????
Talk about egg on your face! "
The village called, they want their idiot back" Again, don't let this happen to you! Good Luck out there & have fun!
Remember, there are enough fake dials out there to sink an oceanliner!
Please take the time after you read this to scroll down & vote on this guide! Hope this guide helped someone out there.
P.S. I got stuck with a fake once& that was one time too many...
It's a shame when money is more important than ethics, not to mention all the antique & vintage watches they are ruining!
I am a collector & it makes me sick at heart!
I am also a proud member of The NAWCC, The National Association Of Watch & Clock Collectors. A member of the long standing, fine organization would not sell pure junk like fake paper dials glued to the original,in an effort to deceive a customer just to make money & mongrelize a fine old timepiece! Thanks for your time.
