West Coast Choppers Buying Guide
According to a wide variety of bike enthusiasts, West Coast Choppers is apparently the cool new kid on the block when it comes to custom motorcycles. Started by a descendant of the famous outlaw Jesse James, West Coast Choppers today reportedly employs some of the most seriously talented and seriously laid back bike customizers anywhere. With an attitude that soldering is an artistic medium, these metal artists take their time--about a year's worth on average. Bikes are created and delivered on a first come, first serve basis.
This means it doesn't matter if you're rich and famous--stars and ordinary joes alike must wait their turn for a chance to own a customized West Coast Chopper bike.
As has been reported in Fortune Magazine, on CNN and even to Martha Stewart, owner Jesse James (husband to actress Sandra Bullock since 2005) began customizing bicycles back when he was little more than a kid. He went into business officially sometime around 1990. He and his company received national attention when he became host of The Discovery Channel's successful Motorcycle Mania I, II, and III. It was here that the public first saw just how cool--and unusual--custom bikes could be.
In addition to motorcycles, West Coast Choppers also customizes cars. Projects are hand-selected, and as with their bikes, they take their own sweet time from start to finish. But they haven't forgotten their roots in terms of where it all started. West Coast Chopper bikes still introduce the concept of the "outlaw rod" to kids who motor via pedals.
