In case you were wondering, this is a bridge exercise.  That is, each movie, or at least each night,  links you to the next one.
Diane Keaton is in both Town and Country and Something's Gotta Give, which also has Amanda Peete,. who goes with us to Melinda and Melinda, where we join Chloe Sevigny who takes us through Broken Flowers, all of the way to The Last Days of Disco. I know I could have skipped this link, but I like the movie and I like Ms. Sevigny. I won't make you watch AMERICAN PSYCHO, though you may choose to, as it would lead you to Willem Dafoe, who pops up later.  But, after the Last Days of Disco, we follow Chloe's roommate, the ever lovely Kate Beckinsale over to Serendipity, where we get handed off to John Cusack, down the rabbit hole to Being John Malkovich, along with his  heavily disguised friend Cameron Diaz, who lives A LIFE LESS ORDINARY. Much as we'd like to let Ewan McGregor and  Albert Finney take us away, we stick with Holly Hunter and go on to Raising Arizona, which carries us over to Wild at Heart (Nicholas Cage and Laura Dern). We stop off to see Mr. Cage at his most irritating in Peggy Sue Got Married, an otherwise charming film, then follow Laura Dern to Rambling Rose, where we pick up Robert Duvall. Ignoring the more obvious paths, we follow Mr. Duvall to A FAMILY THING, with James Earl Jones, who turns up as the admiral in Clear and Present Danger . By the way, Jessica Lange was in Big Fish and Broken Flowers- see, there ARE reasons to bend the rules sometimes.
But, lurking   amongst all of those other stars, there- it's Willem Dafoe, who pops up not just in AM-PSYCH, but also in that weird desert scene in WILD AT HEART and, of course, in SHADOW OF THE VAMPIRE, where we also collect Mr. Malko, like a dropped stitch.   He takes us on to the sublime Hitchhiker's Guide To The Galaxy, where Stephen Fry's voice is not enough to make a link, so we follow Mos Def over to the remake of  The Italian Job.
Now, a special tech-link allows us to follow the lovely Mini Cooper back into the original Italian Job, where we  follow The Man Who Would Be King, or rather, we follow Michael Caine into TMWWBK, leaving at the other side with Sean Connery into Dr. No. Even though Casino Royale was not a "real" James Bond movie, Ursula Andress was there, and so was Woody Allen, who takes us out the back to his own Mighty Aphrodite. From there we have a double link, leading to a split path, if you will: Both Mira Sorvino and Michael Rappaport are in Beautiful Girls, but more importantly, the charming  Natalie Portman, who steals our hearts and takes us away to CLOSER, leaving another part to go away with Uma Thurman into Henry And June, then on to Pulp Fiction, where Amanda Plummer takes us the The Fisher King.

But that thread withers and dies, sadly, while we are paying attention to  Julia Roberts in Notting Hill, then to Rhys Ifans, who leads us into the slightly confused Almost- Reese Witherspoon vehicle, VANITY FAIR.  Just to be sure we are not deceived by Ms. W's attempt to make Becky Sharp into a perky heroine, we watch her as the youthful candidate in Election. Her adversary there, the otherwise baby-faced Matthew Broderick, wanders into Mrs. Parker and the Vicious Circle, where  we dally with Jennifer Jason Leigh, right through GEORGIA,  but ultimately follow Campbell Scott into THE SECRET LIVES OF DENTISTS.  Now, this would be a good place to jump to NOVOCAINE, which would get us into Helena Bonham Carter Counrtry, where I do love to roam, but there is no time. Instead, Hope Davis takes us to ABOUT SCHMIDT, but we don't let Jack Nicholson turn our heads. Instead, we follow Dermot Mulroney and his mullet to LIVING IN OBLIVION, where we meet the universal connector of odd filmdom, Steve Buscemi. He takes us to THINGS TO DO IN DENVER WHEN YOU'RE DEAD. Now, Treat Williams could take us back to THE MEN'S CLUB and another shot at  Jennifer Jason Leigh, but  again, no time this time.  Instead, we  follow the dancing Mr. Walken to Suicide Kings, where he continues to act from the neck up, this time being  confined to a chair by duct tape, instead of paralysis. Over there is Jay Mohr, who will lead us to GO, but first, it's worth the trip to Scotland PA.  GO is also structurally related (sort of) to Pulp Fiction, but, as a pretty low-budget film, it doesn't really share a lot of other actors. Except Telly Savalas in a commercial, which is enough for Wentworth Tradd. Back once again to the Land of Bond, with Mr. Savalas  as Ernst Blofeld, or as he would have it, the Comte de Bleuchamp.

And again, we must rest, hoping to work in several Still Ignored Classics and maybe a few more visitation weekend movies, too.  Until next time, please consider giving this guide a vote for helpfulness and be sure to see my other guides and reviews, including the original Month -O- Movies.

Thanks,

WT
