Weaving Definition

  1. Creating cornrows (braids that lie across the head) and using them as a base to support extensions.
  2. Attaching special weave extensions to cornrows using a sewing method
  3. Creating a look that takes advantage of the way in which hair hangs and overlaps, thereby concealing all stitching

Braiding Definition

  1. Interweaving three or more strands of hair to create corded sections, that lie flat across the scalp or fall away from the scalp
  2. Blending in extensions at the same time to add colour texture and length to your locks

The Look

BRAIDS:

Definitely urban, totally chic but most of all INDIVIDUAL. With any number of looks on offer, braids are a classic form of self-expression. Your own interpretation is the key to creating that signature braid style. For example you could go for the simplicity of poker straight cornrows or opt for any combination of crazy curved and geometric patterns. You could blend in some hair extensions that are straight or curly black blue red or virtually any colour under the earth. For the ends you could seal them right to the bottom or leave them partially “unbraided” so that sections of hair hang free.
Regardless of the look braids have a timeless look they are not just attractive, they’re highly practical, hence their lastly credibility. In the same way that denim jeans don’t go out of fashion, so it is with braids. Good to know you can never go wrong with a classic braid style.

Weaves

In a word: ANYTHING, indisputably the number one choice for celebrity reinventions, the word, the world of weaves is a ‘style-sphere’ of infinite possibility.
A Full Weave, when nearly all the natural hair is cornrowed and covered with extension hair, offer the most complete transformation.  Maybe you fancy bronzed waves á lá Beyonce, Farah Fawcett flicks or Aphrodite curls that cascade all the way down to there? No problem you’ve got it! A full weave is a kin to the best and most natural wig you can wear.
A partial weave when some of your hair is left unbraided and therefore free to blend with the extension hair, offer semi transformations. Partial weaves are perfect for adding sections of colour, length and volume all the while keeping your natural hair on show. Take Beverly knight trademark cool sections of colour, for example, or Britney’s amazingly lustrous golden locks – these looks are aided with weaves.

Pros and cons of weaves and braids

Braids are very affordable. A bundle of synthetic braid hair can cost as little as £5. add it to the £35 styling fee and you have a fab hairdo that will last up to three months for under £50

CONS OF BRAIDS

If overly tight, braids can cause hair loss. Ensure that your stylist knows what they’re doing to negotiate a tension that is comfortable and safe.

You can’t apply high temperatures to synthetic extensions. Therefore, with synthetic braids, heat styling or blow-drying damp braids is out of the question.

Wigs and braids don’t mix. Worn together, a wigs mesh may rub against the braid style and ruin the look
