Earrings frame our face, and are the most popular jewelry item. The right pair of earrings can enhance any outfit, hairstyle, makeup or even other pieces of jewelry. But it requires a keen sense of shape, color and style to match the right earrings with the rest of you.
-
Facial Shape
Your facial shape is important. Unless you have the perfectly proportioned oval face, do not exaggerate your facial shape by wearing earrings of a similar shape. For example, round earrings or hoops will make a round face look rounder. Same with square, rectangular or oblong and triangular face shapes. On the other hand round earrings or hoops will make a square face look softer and square or triangular earrings will deflect from a round face. The shape of the ear itself is important too. Try to keep your earring proportional to the size of your ear. Tiny studs don't look so good on bigger ears and big hoops overpower a smaller ear.
- Hairstyle
Hairstyle plays an important part too. Hopefully your hairstyle already balances your facial shape. Usually earrings look best when they are in symmetry with hair shape and texture. Long, straight earrings look best with long, straight hair. And wavy, curved chandeliers look best with wavy hair.
- Outfit and neckline
Consider your outfit and neckline. Big earrings look best when worn with a lower neckline. Hold off any neck jewelry when wearing big earrings or you will look overloaded. You can still wear a bracelet.
- Earring color
Earring color should complement your skin tone and the color and style of your outfit. Try to either balance bold colors with neutral or wear complementary colors throughout.
