On my quest to find a locket I already own, which is now broken, I succeeded
one day (and then another!), but was very surprised to learn that dishonest (or,
hopefully, unaware) sellers are stating that it's vintage.

I watched in disbelief as a newbie buyer repeatedly bid over and over and over on the auction for it, making the price go well over $40.00. I wanted to contact them so badly and tell them they were wasting their money on something they thought was a vintage piece.
The seller stated it was from her grandmother, and I suppose, guessing it was old, put in the auction title that it was vintage. I messaged her and revealed the true origins, not in anger, just to help her out since she said she didn't know where it came from other than her granny. After realizing she probably was disappointed about the truth I had told her, I expected no response back which is what I got. She did not, however, change her auction and let that buyer pay way too much for it...which is probably exactly what she wanted.
This locket is not vintage, with or without a chain. It is not real gold or silver or gold plated silver. And most likely the stones are cubic zirconia. I bought mine from the department store SEARS in late 1999 for about $18.00.
Now, I know there are a lot of "injustices" on eBay and I know people think some things are worth more than others, and a lot of items sell for however much someone is willing to pay or what it's worth to them, but I just did not like knowing this cheap locket was being called a vintage (and one person said 'estate') piece.
I'm not a vintage piece buyer or collector, but if you are, or are going to be, or thinking about becoming one, please do your research before spending your cash.
I know I would be disappointed to learn something I splurged on, thinking it was rare, turned out to be worthless.

I will, however, continue to look for a decently priced replacement.
