As a fan of Sci-Fi and in particular this book by H.G Wells and the original movie from 1951 starring Gene Barry, I was looking forward to seeing the Steven Spielberg version. I saw, and hated it. This is just  a plain awful movie. First, the underlying human interest story is stupid. Tom Cruise is completely unbelievable as the distant father who grows to love his children through the terror of the attack. Second, rather than frightening this movie is disturbing. The appalling attacks and the constant death scenes leave feeling sick at your stomach. There are some dumb moments: When the attacks start all of the vehicles stop working. Unless you change the solenoid? You think? And he finds the ONE car still working? You think? Finally, I have no idea how we defeated the Martians. The movie is very unclear about that.

A very disappointing movie.
