WALKING YOUR DOG AT NIGHT, THE SAFE WAY
By HOW'S YOUR DOG , a Trusted eBay Powerseller
There is danger in the dark - the biggest is vehicles that don't expect or can’t see you and your beloved four-legged companion. Drivers cannot easily see you through fogged windows, inclement weather, and glare from other vehicles or inattention. Wearing a dark jacket/pants along with your companion’s smaller size or own natural dark coat can make you both as invisible as ninjas during your early morning or evening walks. In order to standout from the scenery there are a few steps you can take to increase your safety as you are out relaxing or exercising.
• Walk Defensively
Remember that you are an unexpected object at night. When you are at a crosswalk or driveway, be sure the driver is aware of your presence by making eye contact before crossing in front of them, especially if they appear ready to turn right on a red light. When walking on the road, be sure to walk on the left side facing traffic so you can see oncoming vehicles. This way you have the advantage of seeing the headlights of approaching cars - stay wary and be prepared to move off the road if necessary. If you carry a light, put it on the side closest to traffic.
• Seeing the Path: Flashlights
A flashlight is a good idea for areas that are unlit or where streetlights do not provide enough illumination.
• Being Seen: LED Flashing Devices (Our Top Picks)
Walking defensively and seeing the path are only the first steps - what you need is a light that moves with you and your dog. That’s where these great new products come in; small flashing lights that clip on your dog’s collar provide lightweight visibility and/or flashing LED collars.
1. Light your way with HOW’S YOUR DOG™ LED Pet Blinker on your dog’s collar or harness
Our blinker is a small flashing light you can clip on the D-ring of your dog’s collar or harness or even your belt to provide lightweight visibility as it flashes bright blue and white in a repeated sequence. It is virtually weightless and visible up to 1,000 feet away. Now, our second generation of the blinkers is improved with double O-ring rubber gaskets - one interior and one exterior, ensuring an air-tight seal and superior component attachment preventing loosening as well as moisture leakage. Maximum security, durability and reliability! Also, the connector ring is updated to the newest double-loop wire ring, eliminating “twist-off” of blinker and lobster clasp. (See picture below)
2. Go for a “Disco” night walk with Tri-color HOW’S YOUR DOG™ LED Flashing Collar
Our collar is constructed with a series of 6 (8 for XL size) extra bright LED lights that flash Red-Blue-Orange in a repeated sequence about every half a second. It is powered by two replaceable CR2032 button batteries that are widely used on alarm clocks and calculators and can last for a long time – approximately 150 hours routine use. (See picture below)
Or Else!
US federal data shows that 3,600 pedestrians were killed on the nation’s streets in 2008 and another 90,000 were injured. They found that most fatalities - 69 percent - occur on neighborhood streets. This is a significant public health and safety problem that is killing more Americans than headline-grabbing violence.
Don't become a statistic; light up for safety!
