The hottest craze to sweep the model horse collecting world include the beautiful works released by Wade @ Northlight, UK. These collectible beauties range from six inch tall ponies to thirteen inch high rearing Mustangs. Collectors in the United Kingdom have known the secret of Wade Northlight models for years, but only recently have these models become easily accessible to American collectors.
The company promotes these model horses as cold-cast porcelain, but most collectors list them as Original Finish (OF) Resins in the showring. The material feels like a heavy, smooth resin.
The painting on Wade Northlight horses is generally excellent, with nicely detailed eyes, hooves and markings.
The product line varies from a wide assortment of breeds, colors and types available to United Kingdom purchasers and only a select few released in the United States. Some United Kingdom releases have been reissued in America under different names. The American "Buckskin Quarter Horse" for example may be familiar to United Kingdom collectors as the Warmblood model! The company cannily released the USA versions in different colors than the United Kingdom versions, although the American releases generally come in only one color per model, whereas their British counterparts include many coat colors and patterns for each mold.
Some of the highly collectible American releases include:
* The Limited Edition gray Andalusian. The gray fades to a soft dove gray, with dappling like tiny starts or snowflakes. Edition size reported as 1,500 copies.
* Leopard Appaloosa chestnut Arabian. This is a very LOUD Appaloosa color on a nicely rendered standing Arabian.
* Pinto American Saddlebred. The bay tobiano color is expertly painted, with nicely shaded bay patches fading to white.
* Farm horse with painted and molded-on halter
* Farrier shoeing a very worried looking Thoroughbred!
* Pinto Indian pony, with cute uplifted tail and nose
* Chestnut and white stock horse
*Buckskin Quarter Horse
*Rolling Appaloosa stallion, sporting a blanket pattern
*Rearing Palomino, with open mouth and tiny painted teeth
*Gray Arabian mare and chestnut suckling foal
More are expected to be released by the Wade Northlight company in 2008.
The Original Finish American release Wade Northlight horses listed above generally sell on Ebay for approximately $25 to $100 each, depending upon the rarity of the mold and how expertly it is painted. Expect your brand new models to come in a nice sturdy carton with styyrofoam inserts too. This makes it easy to transport them to you next model horse show!
Whether you're looking for a gorgeous gift item, a new model to live or photo show, or simply a beautiful horse statue, Wade Northlight model hores offer great value for the money.
