WWE Wrestling 2007 Topps Heritage Review - Great Product

I have to admit that I have been waiting for this release for awhile.  I thought this might look great using some of the vintage looks from the 80's.  Well, it sort of works.  The main part of the set are the superstars and they look all right using the 1980 base design.  It's not flashy in any way but it serves it's purpose well.  SOme of the photography is just plain awful though.  Check out the Randy Orton card - do I need a close up of the side of his face??   The other subsets are the divas done in the 1982 design and that comes off really well.  Look the ladies would look great using any design but the 1982 was particularly well done.  The highly anticipated first card of ECW diva Kelly Kelly could be a big single seller out of this set.  The last subset is the legendary wrestlers using the 1987 design.  I can't imagine a worse choice.  Hey guys - this design was awful when it was NEW!!  Why use it now, especially with some black and white photos of the legends on top of that.  Any of the other early 80's designs would have done well or at least added a bit more color and style..

The inserts are great.  The autographs are well done as usual and the aforementioned Kelly Kelly is the hot seller out of the gate.  The relic cards are also well done though I'd like to see some different colors on these costume swatches.  This is wrestling - not baseball, most of these wrestlers and divas use lots of color in their outfits, so why so many black and white pieces of material???  The Allen and Ginter miniatures are unbelievable.  The artwork is spectacular.  I think I'd love to see a whole set done like this though I'd like to see some of the collectible aspects of other sports card collecting get carried over into wrestling cards at some point.

I have to say that I've opened several boxes and collation has been perfect as well.  Believe it or not, that's a surprise as many of Topps recent products fell short on that score.  I pulled a full set from each box and the correct number of inserts as well. 

Notes:  The box topper inserts aren't really all that interesting and because they are large, won't be collected very much.  The tins that look like the Allen and Ginter cards are very cool looking and have promo cards of the wrestler featured on the tin inside.

Rating 4 stars out of 5 - we'll hold back the last star for using the 1987 design on the legendary cards (though you should check out the cool Gorilla Monsoon card).
