The Wisner Co. of Marion Mass. has been making large format cameras since the 1980's. They have, for many years been the leading American manufacturer of sheet film cameras. In this digital age, large sheet film cameras have become more popular because they offer a high quality alternative. Despite this, Wisner closed in the spring of 2005. They say they will reopen, but it is questionable. The opening date was Sept. 2005. That date is long past and still no Wisner Co. If they reopen they will only make cameras 8x10 size and larger. There will be a price increase of about 25%. THE WISNER CO. HAS ACQUIRED A REPUTATION FOR LATE DELIVERIES. IT HAS NOT BEEN UNUSUAL TO GET A CAMERA YEARS AFTER IT IS ORDERED OR NOT AT ALL. We (BRUCE'S FIELD CAMERA STORE) will not be taking orders for Wisners in the future. They are just too unreliable and flaky and have ruined many photographers' assignments and vacations by making deliveries months late . There is no reason to expect this to change. We do not have any more Wisner cameras in stock but continue to carry lensboards to fit their cameras.
Update 8/28/06: The grapevine has it that the Wisner Company will reopen after all. This is not a surety, but a probability. They have moved into a small workshop from their factory, and will make 8x10 to 16x20 cameras. They will take orders only from dealers and old customers. If you want one contact us and we will recommend an honest dealer.
Update 3/16/07: We have heard that Wisner is back in operation. We will not be selling their cameras because we cannot continue to make excuses for late deliveries and poor quality control and design. Please do not call us about Wisner cameras.
